My neighbor called me up and said she needed to get her nails done but her car was in the shop. I decided I needed a break so told her I'd drive. She likes to go to T.P. Nails, which is a nail shop here in Crofton right next to Christopher's Restaurant. It's on the same side of the street as Blockbuster, behind the Dunkin Donuts. The Rt. 3 section of Crofton is pretty small so it's easy to find!
Anyway, we ended up really having a nice time, enjoying being pampered getting manicures and pedicures. The prices are really reasonable, you don't need an appointment, and the pedicures are just heavenly! Very friendly staff as well.
Afterwards since it was around lunchtime, we went next door to Christophers Restaurant, a popular Crofton restaurant.
I'm really picky about my coffee. I find that some restaurants have a good menu, but their coffee is really cheap and barely drinkable. I'm happy to report that the coffee at Christophers is really good - I had 3 cups so you know it was good!
I wasn't very hungry so we ordered the house salad with various greens and a home-made delicious vinagarette. They ought to bottle this stuff - really very good.
We also ordered the crab dip which came with a small loaf of bread. The crab dip was fantastic, chunks of lump backfin, lots of cheese... yummm!
I haven't been dissapointed by anything that I've ordered at Christophers yet - you might want to try it next time you're looking for a good restaurant to try. (no, they didn't pay me to say this!!! LOL)

Crofton is a wealthy community and it's not often you hear of people that are really struggling, but there is a very nice family in our neighborhood who has had some very bad luck and is in need of our help.
The family consists of a single Dad (Mom left years ago), 2 young girls and a boy. The Dad has worked in construction and has struggled for years just to cover regular bills for his family. In December, he was in a car accident and is now a quadraplegic. The doctors don't think he'll ever walk again. Fortunately for the children, their grandmother was able to move up here and stay with them, but financially they are really in a bind. At our school, there are families that are taking turns bringing over dinners and we could use many more volunteers.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out and help a local family. This type of thing can happen to anybody at any time.
We still need volunteers to bring dinners over to them and if you can't cook, no problem, we would also welcome snacks, whatever you would like to donate. The children are very appreciative and are not picky eaters.
If you'd rather donate money, that is always welcome too. They have many bills to cover including BGE, mortgage, phone, etc. as well as medical bills.
There is talk about putting together a fundraising event for them - I'll post all the information when/if it is finalized.
We are available to pick up any donations or meals, just give us a call. Donations can also be made to the local Girl Scout troop, call us and we'll give you all the information so that you can help!
In case you haven't heard of it before, BRAC stands for Base Realignment and Closure. This has to do with the government closing military bases around the country and consolidating them.
The BRAC is going to be bringing thousands of people into the Ft. Meade and surrounding areas. This is very good for Maryland homeowners as this should help with supply and demand of homes around here. BRAC is the biggest single component of regional growth for the foreseeable future according to the Howard County BRAC Task Force.
What most people don't know is that BRAC has already begun! There were about 250 military jobs that came into the area last month. We helped several military families move into homes in the area. These jobs are going to be coming in, little by little, and by 2009 we're going to get a large influx of people coming in.
If you are thinking about buying in Anne Arundel County, I would suggest that this is the time to do it. No one has a crystal ball so we can't foresee the future, but we do know that there are going to be more than 22,000 jobs coming into the area over the next few years. With these jobs come families that need housing. Think about what that is going to do to our housing market.
Right now interest rates are very low and housing prices are lower as well which makes for a great combination.
