Help Hayward Plan for Housing

The City of Hayward is seeking input from residents about housing and neighborhood issues through an online survey. The information from the survey will be incorporated into the updated General Plan Housing Element. If you live in Hayward or have clients that are Hayward residents, please take a second to complete the survey. This is a great chance for REALTORS® to weigh in on the city's housing plans, too.

Fremont Kicks Off Housing Element Update

On Thursday City of Fremont Planning Department staff held a community workshop to discuss plans for meeting the city's housing needs over the next 20 years.

Planning consultant Don Weden made a presentation about population, energy consumption and environmental issues that Fremont residents should consider when making land use and housing plans.

Dan Schoenholz, General Plan Update Project Manager discussed the two major issues the Housing Element will address: land use; where future housing will be located and housing affordability. Schoenholz reported on that Fremont will need to create approximately 4,300 new housing units by 2014 to accommodate population growth. Of these new units half will need to be made affordable to moderate, low and very low-income households.

This workshop will be the first of several public meetings and hearings to be held by the City of Fremont prior to completing the Housing Element. Fremont City Staff hope to submit a draft version of the Housing Element to the Planning Commission by December 11 and to the City Council by January 13. The final Housing Element must be submitted to the California Department of Housing and Community Development by June, 2009 for their review and approval.
