Comments from satisfied customers who fill out postcard survey is evidence of DVW's quality service
Redmond, WA-"Homeowners who think its normal for their dryer to take more than one cycle to dry clothes -- think again. Lint accumulation or blockage in the vent is a known cause of dryers running inefficiently," says Peter Lui, Dryer Vent Wizard, (DVW), Dry Clothes, Safe Homes, NW Seattle, the largest chain of dryer vent specialists in the U.S.
"While consumers are becoming more aware of the need to conserve energy, they are still unaware that yearly dryer and dryer vent maintenance can help cut energy consumption and bills," says Lui.
The average home spends about $1900 on energy costs every year, according to research conducted by Energy Star a program managed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with assistance from the U.S. Department of Energy.
"With energy costs rising, our role is as much about educating customers as it is providing dryer vent solutions," says Lui, whose Seattle franchise specializes in dryer vent cleaning, replacing vents made of flammable material, repairing and altering vents for residential and commercial clients.
Lui shares these maintenance "tips" to keep dryers running efficiently and reduce energy consumption and costs:
•· Be sure that dryer vent systems are up to code with city, state and manufacturer.
•· Replace any plastic or foil vent with semi-rigid or solid metal venting.
•· Have dryer vents professionally cleaned and inspected annually
•· Clean lint traps before and after drying a load. .
•· Wash lint screens with soap and water every few months to remove residue left behind by fabric softeners.
Warning signs to look for:
•· Clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels.
•· No lint visible in lint screen.
•· Dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle.
"Consumers who follow these guidelines will be pleasantly surprised when their find their clothes dryer takes less time to dry clothes because it uses less energy," says Lui.
In addition conserving energy, the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), dryer manufacturers and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), advise annual dryer and dryer vent maintenance to prevent dryer fires, a leading cause of homes fires in the U.S.
Dryer Vent Wizard, Dry Clothes, Safe Homes was founded in 2004 in Boston, Massachusetts by David Lavalle to fill the gap between consumers who needed an "urgent response" to their dryer vent problems and appliance repair centers that focus on mechanical repairs. Peter Lui services King County, Seattle, Bothell, Woodinville, Shoreline, Redmond, Bellevue, Snohomish County, Lynnwood, Monroe, Snohomish, Arlington, Marysville, Lake Stevens and neighboring cities and communities.

Thru hard work and persistence, Peter Lui achieves a goal to own a business and provide great service to his community
Lynnwood, Washington -- Peter Lui, former Sr. Finance Manager, traded his business suit for a logo-ed uniform to own and operate a Dryer Vent Wizard, Safe Homes, Dry Clothes (DVW), franchise in Seattle Metro Area.
DVW services prevent dryer fires, keep dryers functioning properly and provide energy savings through dryer and dryer vent maintenance, cleaning, repair, replacement and alterations.
When Peter decided he didn't want back into corporate America and wasn't ready to retire, he looked into franchising. Having a high level of customer service experience earlier in his career gave him a wealth of experience on which to draw. He researched several concepts and found Dryer Vent Wizard Dry Clothes, Safe Homes. Despite the funny name, Lui found the concept intriguing. "I liked that DVW provided much needed solutions to consumers' dryer and dryer vent problems which ultimately prevents dryer fires," says Lui.
According to the company, consumer response to DVW has been positive, although a big part of what he does is educating. "When consumers find their dryer taking more than one cycle to dry a load, they assume it's mechanical when the real problem is lint accumulation in the dryer vent causing the dryer to work inefficiently and become susceptible to a dryer fire," says Lui.
A January 2007 report by the U.S. Fire Administration indicates that dryer fires account for an average of 15,000 fires with an approximate $88 Million in property damage, 15 deaths and 400 injuries annually. "Failure to clean" was citied as the leading factor contributing to clothes dryer fires in residential buildings.
In an effort to make consumers more aware, accountant turned entrepreneur Lui shares these maintenance "tips" to prevent dryer fires and keep dryers running efficiently:
Be sure that dryer vent systems are up to code with city, state and manufacturer.
Replace any plastic or foil vent with semi-rigid or solid metal venting
Clean screen lint trays before and after drying a load.
Wash lint screens with soap and water every few months to remove residue left behind by fabric softeners.
Don't leave the house or go to bed with the dryer running.
Have dryer vents professionally cleaned and inspected annually.
He also shares warning signs to look for:
Clothes are taking more than one cycle to dry, especially jeans and towels.
No lint visible on lint screen.
Dryer repeatedly stops during a cycle
Clothes have moldy smell after dry cycle
"Consumers who follow these guidelines," says Lui, "will create a safe environment in their homes, prolong the life of their dryer and save money on energy bills."

The Dryer Vent Wizard knows everything about dryer vents and dryer vent cleaning. Here is more information on the care and maintenance of your clothes dryer vent.
Who needs dryer vent cleaning?
Spring and Fall are ideal times to schedule a dryer vent cleaning.
Your Dryer Vents are All-Important
There are many things that contribute to the proper operation of a clothes dryer. The venting is perhaps the most critical. Below we describe a dryer's functions and how its venting plays a part.
Moisture
One of the most important functions of a dryer is the elimination of moisture recovered during the heating of damp clothing. This moisture is held in the warm air produced by the dryer as humidity, and is normally expelled to the outdoors through the dryer's vent. If this air can not be adequately removed, poor drying will result.
This moisture can also condense into pools of water in the dryer vent, eventually leaking out. Any moisture accumulation inside the dryer ducting is a sign of poor venting which should be looked into. Schedule the Dryer Vent Wizard for a dryer vent cleaning and inspection.
Heat
The heat is another important function of a dryer. Many current dryer models have a 'one-time', non-resettable, thermal fuse or safety. These safety devices will open should the dryer's vent not be installed properly, or if it becomes restricted. Once this happens, the dryer will no longer heat and will require the part to be replaced to correct the condition. On some dryer designs (usually gas) failure of one of these thermal fuses will totally stop the dryer operation altogether.
On older models without one of these thermal safeties, poor venting can cause the dryer to cycle on its safety thermostat, instead of the temperature control thermostat. This usually contributes to poor drying and can cause overheating. On some models, the malfunctioning of the timer operation affects some cycles.
Dryer vent problems could be avoided with regular dryer vent cleaning.
