In 2005 Whatcom County, in Washington State, discovered that their zoning regulations did not comply with the Growth Managment Act of 1990. Whatcom County has made efforts since then to revise the rural zoning maps to meet the GMA guidelines which are meant to help prevent sprawling type development & preserve our rural lands. The proposed changes to the zoning maps are based on comments from local residents & the Whatcom County Planning Commission.
