Don't Vote on November 4th

Don't Vote on November 4th

At least, don't show up in person to vote unless you have a lot of time to wait in line.

The Orange County Registrar of Voters is in the final stages of preparation for one of the largest voter turnouts on record for the November 4, 2008 General Election. With an anticipated turnout of around 73%, the Registrar is recommending that voters use alternative methods of voting rather than visiting your neighborhood poll place. Even though Orange County is one of only two counties in California authorized to use electronic voting machines at the polling places, a few simple steps could save you lots of time on voting day.

You can still apply for and receive a vote-by-mail ballot. This ballot can be mailed directly to the Registrar or dropped off on election day to poll workers without having to wait in line. If you decide to visit a polling place on November 4th, be prepared by having some form of identification that shows your current address. You don't have to show your driver's license but a utility bill would suffice or better yet, bring along your sample ballot with your address information printed on it.

BTW, it would help speed the entire process for everyone if you familiarize yourself with the candidates, propositions and measures that may appear on the ballot. It's all contained in the sample ballot.

For more information visit the OC Registrar of Voters' website.

Mission Viejo Market Update

Mission Viejo Real Estate Market Update - by John Alesi, REALTOR®

This is my first attempt at a VLOG - video blog - so, I'd appreciate your comments (be gentle!). I don't think I'm ready for prime time but I hope to get better at this. I used my Flip Ultra video cam, edited with Eyespot.com online editor and posted to YouTube. I tried to use the Eyespot embed code but there was too much extra junk around the screen. Any suggestions on filming, editing and posting would be appreciated.

Orange County Symphony Concert

Orange County Symphony Concert - by John Alesi

ViolinAs part of my overall community awareness and love of music, it is my pleasure to tell you about an wonderful community asset in the City of Anaheim, the Orange County Symphony. Since 1985, the symphony has served as a regional orchestra bringing live classical music to the area. On Sunday, September 28, 2008, the orchestra performed their opening concert with their new Conductor and Musical Director, Anthont Parnther. As an aside, I do have a vested interest in this group as my wife, Christy, is a member of the viola section.

For their initial offering of the season, the concert featured some of my (as well as the audience's) favorite works. For first time concert goers or those not too familiar with "classical" music this program was quite easy to listen to. Opening with the enegertic Festive Overture by Shostakovich and continuing with a work, Weiter, by contemporary composer (and UCLA graduate) Anthony Plog, the first half ended with the perennial concert favorite, Bolero by Maurice Ravel, with its unchanging snare drum beat and a variety of orchestral colorings of the melody. After a brief intermission and the presentation of several "opportunity gifts", the symphony performed Symphony No. 9 by Dvorak known as the "New World Symphony" which was first performed in New York City in 1983.

pumpkinAlthough the audience was modest in number, they were certainly thunderous in their applause for the symphony and it's conductor. In addition to their regular schedule of concerts the group will be performing as a smaller group at various functions to build awareness to both adults and youth in the community. In fact, the next concert will coincide with the Halloween season as they present "Tunes From The Crypt", a spooktacular evening of musical tricks and treats. By the way, kids dressed in costume will be admitted free with adult. (It doesn't say if the adult needs a costume, but I suppose it couldn't hurt!). Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 26, 2008, 7:00pm. Ticket prices are $15 - adults, $10 Seniors/Students which can be purchased at the door.

All major concerts are scheduled for the Servite High School Theater, 1952 W. La Palma, Anaheim, CA. For complete details of upcoming concerts and symphony information, visit their website at www.OCSymphony.org.

I hope to see you at the next concert. In fact, If you are planning to attend, let me know and I'll reserve a block of seats!
