The Community of Bedford, New Hampshire
Bedford, New Hampshire , formerly a quiet farming town, has evolved into an affluent bedroom community for those commuting to nearby Manchester and other cities; notably, Nashua, Boston and even Concord. With an 80/20 residential-to-business ratio, the Bedford, NH real estate profile doesn't automatically evoke a booming business town. However, commerce in the town is growing. Popular establishments include the Bedford Village Inn and Restaurant, one of the top Bed and Breakfasts in New Hampshire, and C.R. Sparks, one of the area's finest restaurants.
Incorporated in 1750, the town was named for Lord John Russell, 4th Duke of Bedford, a close friend to colonial Governor John Wentworth. While it remained a quiet rural town for most of the next two centuries, Bedford enjoyed a population boom after World War II, when the expansion of highways and other transportation routes brought a massive influx of new residents throughout southern New Hampshire.
Conveniently located near Boston, the seacoast, the White Mountains and the Lakes Region, the town offers excellent schools, a thriving local business climate, and bountiful opportunities for recreation, sightseeing and leisure. Business activity in the community is focused along Route 3, otherwise known as "the performance zone." Premium office parks and shopping centers such as the local mall, Macy's department store, the Wayfarer Inn and the Manchester Country Club line this road, which runs south from Manchester into Merrimack and Nashua. The town's other commercial clusters are along Route 101, which extends westward.
With recent expansions to its first-rate school system now taking effect, the community has turned its focus toward town recreational facilities, including a 70-acre park with several ball fields, ski trails, fishing and ice skating. The scenic town center offers an array of lovingly preserved historic buildings, including Schoolhouse #7, the Presbyterian Church, and the town hall. The Kendall Shop Museum and Carriage House offers a variety of exhibits highlighting the community's illustrious past. Other attractions nearby include Manchester's Palace Theatre, the Verizon Wireless Arena, the Currier Museum of Art, Pat's Peak Ski Area, the Manchester Historic Association Millyard Museum, Christa McAuliffe Planetarium and the SEE Science Center.

If you own a restaurant, coffee shop, or a bar, you understand that lots of accidents can happen. As a result of slippery floors, waiters and waitresses rushing around, alcohol intake, and the possibility of food spoilage, a restaurant is a hotbed for lawsuits. You most likely already have restaurant insurance, but are you absolutely sure you’re covered for everything? Have you considered the worst-case scenarios? Depending on where you’re located, you could have many dangers right at your restaurant’s doorstep. It may be time for you to re-evaluate your restaurant, coffee shop, or bar insurance policy. There are a few very basic types of insurance that no one should be running a food industry establishment without.
Food spoilage. What if a huge storm knocks out the power overnight, and by morning, all of your food is spoiled? And on that note, you would have to close the place down for a few days while you had new food brought in. Do you have business interruption insurance to cover your loss of income during that time? It also covers lost funds in the event of damage due to weather or theft.
Property insurance will cover damages when fire or other disasters strike, and general liability will pay for medical expenses if someone gets injured on the property of your restaurant, or if they get food poisoning. Workers compensation does the same, but for your employees. (This is a must.)
There are also other types of insurance you may need, especially if you cater, such as commercial auto insurance. This is just like regular auto insurance, only it covers your employees who drive and the car. Combined with other restaurant insurance policies, it’s also cheaper. And do you serve alcohol? If so, liquor liability is a very good idea. It will cover damaged property and/or injured customers if someone decides to go on a drunken rampage inside your place. This happens much more often than people realize.
Call us today if you’re interested in updating your restaurant insurance policy. After working so hard for your restaurant, coffee shop, or bar, it’s important to keep it protected. We’re CounterPoint Insurance in Bedford, New Hampshire.
