Charlestown New Hampshire Folks come join A Halloween Carnival, on Sunday 1st of November 2009, the Cub Scouts of Charlestown are sponsoring a free Halloween Carnival from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Charlestown's Primary School. Theres going to be a whole lot of fun Carnival games, Costume judging to take part in, and a huge minatour maze.

Children attending must be accompanied by an adult. The P.T.A. will also be haven a winter clothing rummage sale, and taken wreath orders in the School at the same time, Please be sure to attend to show your support.

First Time Home Buyers Need to Know About Charlestown, NH Property Tax, Charlestown Town Governing body, being in the Economic times we are in, why are you going to make it harder on the folks that live here, and those that just might be thinking of bauying a home and moving their familys to Charlestown, New Hampshire, by increasing the Property Taxes 3.9 percent for 2009 Tax year.

This percent will raise home owners property Taxs to $24.30 per $1000.00 of assessed propery. First Time Home Buyers, and Home Owners this is a 94 cent increase over last year's. Charlestown Governing body's portion of this increase will be up 3 cents from the $5.92 of last year, to $5.95 for this current year's Property Taxes.

First Time Home Buyers Need to Know About Charlestown, NH Property Tax, Sullivan County's portion of the Property Tax rate has dropped 12 cents from last year's $2.77 to $2.65 for this current year. Our local School Tax is taken an increase of 90 cents, up to $14.29 from last year's $13.39, and the State School portion is up 13 cents $2.35 from last your's $2.22. All this means, that a home in Charlestown valued at $150,000 will be seeing an increase of $141.00 in Property Taxes this year.

Most of this is due to a loss of revenue sharing funds from the State of New Hampshire. Even after the State took a big raise of all fees folks have to pay. Motor vehicle registrations are way down in Town of Charlestown, this could very will be from the high increase of the fee by the State at the start of this year. Building permits are way down also for the Town of Charlestown.

First Time Buyers Need to Know About Charlestown, NH Property Tax, just may be if the State of New Hampshire, the Towns, the Citys, would stop and think. If they would take a real long and hard look at the money they spend, and if all the top Government Officals would take a decrease in what they pay them selves, then maybe regular folks would not have to have a hrad time of paying their bills and home mortgage, then we could see a decrease in foreclosures.

The Dwelling that The Charlestown Animal Hospital is in, Charlestown New Hampshire. The Dwelling its self sure does have a lot of very interesting things about it. As I wrote in my blog post titled The Charlestown Animal Hospital and a Historic Site in Charlestown New Hampshire. The very first dwelling that was on this site was back in 1752, which Captain James Johnson had constructed a cabin for his family and himself to live in, as they started their new life of living outside the protection of the Fort at No. 4, which was located aways South of their cabin.

I'll add a link for that post at the end of this one, for those of you that have not read it yet, and would like to.

This is not at all a photo of the Johnson cabin in 1752, but it can give you some what of an idea. What the very first dwelling may have looked like many years later of no one living in it, on this Historic Site in Charlestown.

Now for a photo of how The Dwelling that The Charlestown Animal Hospital is in, Charlestown New Hampshire looks like today. On this Historic Site.

There are three sections of this dwelling. Some areas of it date back many many moons ago.

There are many puzzles about this dwelling, as it stands now, from its chronological order of its growth. Theres a shed in the back, that appears to be the oldest section. With the dimensions nearly corresponding to those of the province houses constructed at the fort. This dwelling at one time had two batten doors of very small size, very similar to the old door with a hatchet scar, that is also from this dwelling, thats now on exhibition at Fort No. 4. Theres a trap door to a root cellar, and worn stairs ascend to a sleeping area under the eaves, but theres no evidence at all of a cook hearth.

At one time in The Dwelling that The Charlestown Animal Hospital is in, Charlestown New Hampshire, there was a kitchen in the middle of this dwelling, more than likely was the second area of construction. There are some remains of a hearth and chimney, but they are now hidden by one of the walls. This dwelling has a rock foundation, and very old beams in the crawl space area. Now heres something that sure is very interesting, the walls are insulated with corn husks.

The second dwelling that was constructed on this Historic Site, by Mrs. Johnson's mother, Susanna (Hastings) Willard, along with the help of Colonel Whiting, they constructed it while the family were in captivity.

The front section of this dwelling sure appears to have been constructed as a free standing structure at a later date, that has cellar walls of rock, and bricks from an early nearby brickyard in town. At one time it had a one pipe wood and coal burning furnace. The base of it is still in place, and the register, is now hidden by floor covering in what was the dining room of the dwelling, this register heated the whole dwelling.

Now the next section of The Dwelling that The Charlestown Animal Hospital is in, Charlestown New Hampshire, sure has undergone many changes over the years, a new entry was added at one time, that covered the old door and its side lights, and a back entry was closed off, but the steps were left right in place. Where the living room was, there was a real fine looken fireplace with a fine looken mantel and side decorations but it was just for show, seen that there was not a chimney.

A mystery of this dwelling is the three sections of the whole do not at all fit together correctly. When the front and the center sections were joined, parts of the windows were wiped out, and the shed roof protrudes into a bedroom on the second floor over where a kitchen once was.

Heres some more very interesting information about The Dwelling that The Charlestown Animal Hospital is in, Charlestown New Hampshire, it was in that bedroom many former visitors had experienced bad vibrations. And some of those guests had even refused to sleep in that particular bedroom.

Doing a full Home Inspection of a dwelling as of this one, sure would be a dream come true for this Home Inspector. I have gotten to Inspect some very interesting Historic Home's in the pass, but none of them were anything like this dwelling. Wow I sure would have to do the happy dance after doing an Inspection of a dwelling lik this one. Thats for sure!

The Charlestown Animal Hospital and a Historic Site in Charlestown New Hampshire is located at 23 Main St. Right next to the Charlestown Fire Department.

You can also pick up your family pet member's food. Like Purina PRO PLAN, this is the only kind of food Miss Alexis will eat. And it has to be the Salmon and Rice Formula only. And the one time it was not, she sure did let us know she was not at all happy about it.

Way before The Charlestown Animal Hospital and a Historic Site in Charlestown New Hampshire came to be. Back in 1752, Captain James Johnson constructed a cabin on this lot for his family as they started their life outside the protection of the Fort No. 4. At that time the Johnson's cabin was the most northerly dwelling along todays Charlestoen's main street. It sure ended up not to be a very safe move for the Johnson family, for they ended up being captured by Indians Aug. 30, 1754 and taken to Canada. During their long trek, Mrs. Johnson had a baby daughter whom she named Captive. She set memorial stones at the site where Captive's birth took place. Now on route 106 in Reading, Vermont. Then in 1760, the Johnsons were returned to Charlestown. You can find a reprint of Mrs. Johnson's account of their capture and their struggle to return home. In a book available at the Fort at No. 4 gift shop, when the Fort is able to reopen.

In March of 1927, the Daughters of the American Revolution voted pay $91.58 for a bronze plaque to mark the site of the Johnson cabin and the captivity of the Jhonson family.

Historic Homes For Sale in Charlestown New Hampshire, Charlestown has the charm of antiquity, and beautiful scenery, rural surroundings, that still holds its small town atmosphere. Charlestown is an historic small village in the southwestern corner of New Hampshire. A quiet corner, lying peacefully along 13 miles of the beauty of the Connecticut River.

Within the boundaries of Charlestown, are also the smaller hamlets of South Charlestown and North Charlestown. Today Charlestown is a community of 4800 folks with many churches, civic groups, and businesses. During the Revolution War, Charlestown was a supply and recruiting town, as well as the jumping off point to the Crown Point Road across Vermont. In 1781, unhappy with the treatment folks in Charlestown was receiving from the State of New Hampshire, Charlestown actually joined the State of Vermont for a brief time, and only returning to New Hampshire through the intervention of George Washington the Father of our Country himself.

You can find Federal style built Historic Homes For Sale in Charlestown New Hapshire, in the National Historic Neighborhood District. Sturdy farmers homes, and many Capes (Cape Cod style). They remain to this day, many of them dating back to the 1700s. Charlestown has been a very appealing destination for folks over two centuries.

Heres one of the fine looking and Rich in History homes in the Historic neighborhood. That just so happens to be listed on the market for sale.

This Historic Home For Sale in Charlestown New Hampshire, is the Labaree - Putnam house. There has been many archaeolgical digs on this site, that this home sites on. One of the digs which was, conducted by Howard Sargeant, who was hired by the Fort Four Associates, discovered on this dig the placement of the palisade logs of the perimeter of the fort.

The study of this dig, determined that the fort extended east across the Main Street of Charlestown.

And then a dig that took pleace during 1988 and 1989 discovered a very queer arrangement of cast iron discs about six inches in diameter, placed in a circular manner just like like a sundial with about a five foot circumference. Each disc had the numbers of one through twelve, on the just like a clock, except that the #12 and #6 were reversed.

This arrangement was found on the northeasterly border of the lot alongside the remains of a road which ran between the Labaree - Putnam House and the Mary Walker House ( which is still occupied by ancestors they say). This strange arrangement still remains a puzzle to this day.

The present home was built in 1880, somewhat later than most of the Historic Homes For Sale in Charlestown New Hampshire, in the National Historic Neighborhood District, There was several Victorian features were incorporated, which includ French doors in the livingroom and a corner fireplace. The double front doors are of an older period and they have etched glass panels. When looking up the front stairs in the hallway, your eyes are sure to focus on the beautiful ruby glass window which faces into a bathroom.

The bathroom would have be installed in the home at a much later date. Theres a back stairway that remains in place. The downstairs rooms have been rearranged to accommodate the offices of Dr. Paul Willard. One of the parlors became his office. Upstairs of this truely fine home, theres a fan window in the south gable.

When George Putnam, lived in this one of the Historic Homes For Sale in Charlestown New Hampshire, back in the 1920's, wrote about the Spirit of No. 4, 1735 to 1935, in which he found a reference that declared, In 1760, when the Crown Point Road was being built from Fort No. 4 to Lake Champlain, Goff's New Hampshire regiment carpenters spent ten days putting the old fortress in good condition.

This D.A.R. marker which is on the front lawn was dedicated on the 150th anniversaty of the Indian raid in 1754. There was over 2000 folks, that included descendants of Captain James Johnon which he and his family were captives of the Indians.
