Due to a recent surge in automobile break ins in the city of Dover, 40 reported in the last 60 days, Chief Calarusso of the Dover Police Department has put out a strong warning to the citizens of Dover-" If you leave your vehicle, lock it!"
Apparently no one is safe. These thugs are getting cars in peoples driveways! They are targeting unlocked cars. As Chief Calarusso puts it "Thieves are lazy," they are not going to do more than they have to or do something that will draw attention to themselves. Again they are after everything and anyone, the police are asking the people of Dover to keep a look out for people that look suspicious; people wondering around vehicles, people checking doors, peaking in windows. If you notice something strange, report it immediately.
The Dover police would like to get this matter solved, and they are asking the good residents of Dover for help. For questions or concerns the Dover Police Department can be reached at 603-742-4646.

In the Dover City News this week, I read an article about some historical records being returned to the City of Dover. These records date back to 1641 and were headed for auction on the Internet. The Document, which is entitled " Town Records Of Dover New Hampshire 1641-1807", contains 1,110 pages filled with information on the settlement and development of Dover, which by the way is the seventh oldest settlement in the United States. The documents include references from The American Revolution, Boston Tea Party, the Declaration Of Independence, and the Nations first federal elections. According to a description by The Heritage Auction Galleries " the records detail the minutes of town meetings and the actions of the Selectmen on a tremendous range of concerns; from issues related to land, water and wood rights to determining boundaries of land grants from the town commons and the election of officials and similar business,".

The city of Dover, New Hampshire is evolving into something beautiful. Once a thriving colonial seaport, and later, the nations leading manufacturer of cotton goods this city, like many, suffered it's hard times. But still, Dover and it's residents persevered, often in the shadow of nearby Portsmouth. Over the past few years this quaint little city has taken on a life of it's own. With ever growing culture, nightlife and entertainment, and dare I say, exceptional dining, this once shadowed little city has become a place you should come to visit and EAT!
Here are a few of my favorite places to dine-
Cartelli's Bar & Grill
Located at 446 Central Avenue next to River's Camera shop, Cartelli's specializes in Italian favorites- extraordinary Alfredo, the very best Penne Ala Vodka, and maybe my favorite, Chicken Tuscany. As well as steak, seafood, gourmet salads, pub food... even amazing Sushi! Truly something for everyone! The servings are enormous, but not nearly as big as the atmosphere. You can often find owner, Mike Cartelli, socializing with patrons or having a drink at the bar with friends. You will always find locals gathering for some time spent among good company.
Although I LOVE the fabulous Italian cuisine, the welcoming, fun loving atmosphere is surely my favorite part. Be sure to say hello to Patti and Nicole! And tell them Stephanie sent you. Friday and Saturday nights get busy so call or ahead or plan to wait - it's worth it!

Find them on-line at www.Cartellis.com
Blue Latitudes
The historic Cocheco Mill is home to Blue Latitudes. Casual dining where their only request is "you wear clothes and shoes". Here you can experience everything from dining on the deck - a neat little segment carved out of the Cocheco Mill Courtyard, comfortably set under umbrella tables - to the dining room, ideal for families - to the bar, complete with dimmed lighting, high, copper topped tables and welcoming comfort ability.
And what about the food? Fantastic. You can have a burger stacked high with all the fixings, including onion rings (YES! On the burger) to an extraordinary salad topped with warm goat cheese rolled in pine nuts. Again, a little bit of something for everyone.

Find them on-line at www.BlueLatitudes.net or at 431 Central Ave.
The Fish Shanty
When you walk into this modest establishment, with it's unique, but pleasing, blue exterior and casual family atmosphere, nothing prepares you for what you are in for. The Fish Shanty, family owned and operated for over 25 years, serves some of the best fried seafood you will ever encounter. If the crispy, airy batter and large servings don't keep you coming back, the quick, friendly service will. Also located on Central Ave., you can't miss it snuggled in next to the Days Inn.

Find them online at www.fishshanty.com or at 475 Central Ave.
A Portsmouth girl at heart, I have truly come to love this little New Hampshire city.
