Hollis, NH Real Estate Market Report - October 2008

The number of single family homes sold in Hollis, NH during the month of October decreased from 6 sold (2007) to 3 homes sold in 2008.

The average selling price dropped from $478,048 in 2007 to $457,000 in 2008.

The average DOM (Days on Market) dropped sharply to 70 days from 125 in 2007.

These statistics indicate that properties that sold were priced to sell quickly for the market conditions.

     One of my favorite events this time of year is the Beaver Brook Association Fall Festival.  This year marks the 28th annual festival.

    The mission of the fall nature festival is to get people to enjoy nature.  There are activities to emphasize the importance of wildlife and environmental conservation as well.

       The theme of the art and photography show is Nature.  There is no limitation on who can submit art...entrties are submitted from kids to professionals.

•  Time:   12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
•  Where: Maple Hill Farm, 117 Ridge Road, in Hollis New Hampshire. 

       You won't want to miss the two live animal shows.  I was in awe and amazed by these shows.  One live animal show is a presentation by the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center on local wildlife.  Live animals such as turtles and porcupines are featured.   

        The other live animal show highlights North American Birds of Prey which is presented by Wingmasters.  At the show I saw birds such as eagles and hawks and I got a couple of great pictures. 

        The Beaver Brook Fall festival has something for the entire family.  Visitors from New Hampshire and beyond make it a point to attend.  Last year there were over 1200 attendees!  You can also enjoy:

• Nature Crafts designed for Kids
• Dried herbs and flower arrangements
• Baked goods and Cider
• Guided hikes on trails and beautiful gardens
• Self-guided pumpkin trail
• Farmer's Market and local fruits and vegetables
• Goods from local crafters and artisans        

Short History of Beaver Brook Association

     In 1964 the Beaver Brook Association was founded by Hollis P. Nichols and Jeffrey P. Smith, both of Hollis, New Hampshire. They began with 12 acres of land.  Their vision was to foster land stewardship awareness and encourage a sense of appreciation for the natural world. The State of New Hampshire chartered Beaver Brook Association as an educational non-profit organization.

Currently there are over 2,000 acres located in Hollis, Brookline, and Milford, New Hampshire.   Hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, biking and many other activities are enjoyed by families on 35 miles of trails.  The trails are carefully mapped and designated for activities that will have the least impact on the particular area.

    Lull Farm, LLC is one of my favorite places to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.  Lull Farm has two farm stands; one located in Hollis New Hampshire and another in Milford.  

   Owner, David Orde, known as "Farmer Dave," began the farm 26 years ago with about 15 acres of apple and peach trees.  Today, the Farm has over 250 acres and produces a variety of fruits and vegetables.

    The Motto of Lull Farm is "EAT YOUR VIEW" ...   to remind everyone to support the farm so that it will remain a viable resource in the region.   

    Farmer Dave's Daughter designed a bumper sticker with the motto and she encourages everyone to pick one up and place it on their bumper to remind eveyone to support their local farms!

   Lull Farm has been voted by New Hampshire Magazine readers as the best farm stand in 2007 and best place to pick strawberries in 2008.

    The produce is exceptional and the prices are very competitive, if not lower than other farm stands in the area.  You can find things at Lull Farm Stand that cannot be found anywhere else.

In addition to buying local produce, parents and children can pick their own strawberries, blueberries, apples and pumpkins.  One of my favorite events is the corn maze.  Here is a list of the events at Lull Farm Stand which you will not want to miss.
