About Portsmouth's Little Harbor

Cool free stuff

Jim Lee, Seacoast Realtor Portsmouth, NH, Jewel of the NH Seacoast: Real Estate Agent in Portsmouth, NH

Here's a couple of new free stuff aps that some may find useful.

First is called "NudgeMail" which sends you email reminders when you want to be reminded of something, e.g. appointment, birthday, whatever. You can set your email to just send you an email reminder on the appropiate date and/or time.

I know lots of other stuff does the same thing but it's one more tool in your toolbox to keep you from missing something that's important or that you really want to do.

It also synchronizes with Google Calendar.

'Fallin off a log' easy to use, free, and can be useful.

next is a cool file sharing ap called "Ge.tt". Say you want to send a client a batch of new photos of his or her listing to get their OK or approval or just to show them you're working on their listing. Sending a big attachment doesn't always work as we all know. With Ge.tt you just upload them to Ge.tt, copy the shortened URL, and send them along to whoever. They then click the link, go to the Ge.tt website and see whatever you sent them.

You can mix and match different file types too. I tried it with 6 JPGs, 2 .doc file, 4 PDFs, and a Publisher file thrown in for good measure. (your recipient has to have the program to open file types). They all appeared on Ge.tt just as I uploaded them and were easy to open.

"Ge.tt Huh? What is it?

Ge.tt is a real-time file sharing service. But what is it really and what can you use it for?

Let's try to explain it a bit. What is Ge.tt? Ge.tt is an instant, real-time file publishing and sharing service. With Ge.tt there is no need for special software or plug-ins. It is a simple file sharing and publishing tool for all types of materials including documents, video, music and photos.

How does it work and what can you use it for? With Ge.tt you can turn any type of file into web content and share it instantly. You can share documents, video, music and photos in the browser making them instantly available for the recipient.

If you sign up, you can even re-use and keep track of the materials that you previously shared. Ge.tt is suitable for professional and personal use.

Real-time sharing Your files are ready to be published or shared as soon as you select them! No need to wait for files to upload.

Real-time statistics You can easily track how many people have downloaded or viewed your files."

So two cool new ways to do stuff you're already doing and both are my favorite price; FREE!

Ge.tt and NudgeMail, give em a try.

And as a bonus for reading this far here's another cool, free website called WorkFlowy which is one of those things so simple it makes you mad you didn't think of it yourself. Basically Workflowy is just a list you generate but it goes way beyond jsut being a list. I have mine on my Bookmarks toolbar and look at it daily to see what goals, projects, links, notes, or whatever, I need to remind myself of or get done today. Take a look at WorkFlowy, it will help simplify your life.

Exploring Litle Harbor Road in Portsmouth New Hampshire

Jim Lee, Seacoast Realtor Portsmouth, NH, Jewel of the NH Seacoast: Real Estate Agent in Portsmouth, NH

I find it fun to explore hidden and little used roads, trails, and byways I come across. One cool road that has a lot to offer but gets very little use is Little Harbor Road near our home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Turn off Sagamore Avenue just past the South Street Cemetery onto Little Harbor Road, it’s only about a mile to the dead end but it’s a beautiful walk or run through the little used, wooded road.

First turn along the way is Currier Lane, a short little cul de sac with about 8 fairly modern homes. Continuing along Little Harbor Road you next come to Little Harbor Chapel on your left. Founded in 1902, the Chapel is an undemonimational church that has services only during the summer months of July and August. This beautiful little church in the woods is also available for weddings and recitals as long as they are smallish affairs, the church only has seating for 80 and no heating system.

True Confessions: Zestimates are not 100% accurate.

Jim Lee, Seacoast Realtor Portsmouth, NH, Jewel of the NH Seacoast: Real Estate Agent in Portsmouth, NH

Spent the day in Boston Wednesday at Inman's "Agent Reboot" an event billed as a: "power-packed, low cost, local event for real estate professionals. This one-day, fast-paced program, will equip agents with the latest in business development, technology and marketing skills to help them be more successful. Agent Reboot is being offered in 12 cities across the United States."

Well, with a promise and a build up like that who could resist so I went.

Pretty cool stuff all day long, Daniel Rothamel, Founder of RealEstateZebra.com, and @realestatezebra on twitter was the moderator and presented some of the fast paced material.

One of the perhaps unintended but certainly surprising tips revealed was that Zillow's "Zestimates" for home values through the United States are not 100% accurate but only...........well, a Zestimate.

Turns out the guess..........or, Zestimates can be off as much as almost 50%! Yep, and it's published right there at bottom of Zillow.com at a tiny link innocuously titled: "Zestimate® Values & Accuracy"

Go check out your own area and see how wrong they are there. And the next time a seller (or buyer) starts beating you up with a Zestimate put out the Big Z's own data and lay it out in front of them. Odds are good you have better data and a better real world number for the price or projected price than they have.

Here's what a portion of what their dart board...................er, chart looks like:

zillow real estate estimate jim lee portsmouth nh realtor

I have a better idea.

a capuchin monkey throwing darts

Monkey throwing 1 dart hit the target 100% of the time

2 darts 50%

3 darts 66.3%

4 darts (after banana break) 75%

5 darts 80%

*Added information: If there was a house behind the dart board the monkey hit either the house of the dart board 100% of the time.

**NOTE** In full disclosure that was my monkey's results. Your monkey may produce entirely different results.

2 Portsmouth NH Realtors visit the Pumpkin People and the Yellow Brick Road

Jim Lee, Seacoast Realtor Portsmouth, NH, Jewel of the NH Seacoast: Real Estate Agent in Portsmouth, NH

This past Sunday Ann and I decided to take the day off and head for the mountains. No showings scheduled and no appointments so it was a perfect opportunity for some R & R.

We headed north from Portsmouth up Route # 16 and after a couple of stops in North Conway and other spots, ended up in Jackson, New Hampshire just outside the White Mountain National Forest.

Jackson was having their annual “Pumpkin People” contest/display/festival. I’m not sure what you would call it but pretty cool nevertheless. The only rule was all the displays had to have heads made of pumpkins. Here’s some of the coolest ones we saw:

Sunday in the white mountains, this the ski couple with baby pumpkin people

This "Pumpkin People" couple and baby are ready for the snow to fall.

Next we saw Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. From the orange stockings sticking out from the picket fence we can assume the house just fell on the Wicked Witch of the East.

Glinda, the Good Witch of the North was giving directions towards Oz

And sure enough, just up the yellow brick road was Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, and a surprise traveler, Realtor Ann Cummings, all off to see the Wizard.

There was a pumpkin people wedding going on behind an inn.

We gave the pumpkin chef at the Wentworth Inn extra points for creativity because the stove had a fan inside blowing the red cellophane to simulate flames on the stove top.

The Alice in Wonderland gang were having a tea party at the Red Fox Bar & Grille

Moving along to the next spot we found The Flintstones, Fred, Wilma, and all the gang. 2010 is their 50th anniversary.

This year is the 50th anniversary of The Flintstones

The Flintstone's gang were looking pretty good with their golf cart car and pet dinosaur Dino

With all the pumpkins around I think Linus has a good chance of seeing The Great Pumpkin this year.

It's the great pumpkin charlie brown, he's right here in Jackson NH

From left to right are: Schroeder, Lucy, Pig Pen, Linus with his blanket, Snoopy lying on his doghouse with Woodstock the bird, and Good ol Charlie Brown

And finally some pumpkin kids were being read a bedtime story before turning in for the night.

There were 47 “Pumpkin People” displays spread all over Jackson and we had fun visiting all the ones we could easily find. Some very nice local folks told us about a couple we would not have found on our own including the Peanuts characters. Print out this map and guide so you can see all 47.
