Harness Racing, Demolition Derby and Fried Twinkies, Oh My- The Rochester NH Fair Is Almost Here!

New England’s fair season is in full swing, and the state’s largest one is about to open- the Rochester NH Fair runs September 16th to 25th, 2011. For a full nine days in September a seat in the grandstand will become the prime piece of Rochester NH real estate. Featuring the full complement of traditional fair staples such as agricultural displays, shows, and crafts, the Rochester Fair also showcases the more refined pleasures of life: monster trucks, demolition derbies and a huge midway full of the latest mechanical rides and deep fried fair foods!

When Rochester held its first Fair in 1874, the US was in the midst of a long period of prosperity following the Civil War. Locally there was not much available in the way of entertainment and city residents wanted something to call their own. The Fair was conceived as celebration of New England agricultural traditions, providing the opportunity for competition between neighbors and showcasing seldom seen entertainment through the inclusion of traveling acts. This remains the defining characteristic of the fair to this day.

The success of the Rochester NH Fair in those early years led to increased attendance from those not only from the surrounding area, but from as far away as Boston as well. Special trains were added at fairtime just to fill the needs of those traveling from Massachusetts. The success of the early fairs allowed for the building of numerous permanent structures, many of which stand proudly today. Rochester is one of the few fairs in the state that still has the bulk of their victorian buildings, most others have been lost to fire or neglect. Both the Grandstand and Exhibition Building are over 100 years old!

As we transition into fall what better way is there to celebrate life in New England than mingling with some livestock, riding the Tilt-o-whirl after a sausage and peppers sub, taking in a Paul Bunyon contest and winding down the day by watching a tractor pull on a cool evening with good friends?

5 Factors to consider while selling your Rochester NH home

Bill Somerset -ABR®, E-PRO®, Realtor®, NH Real estate agent: Real Estate Agent in Dover, NH

Five Factors That Sell a House

Price

Overpricing a home misses its market and discourages Buyers from looking at your home. Buyers that have looked at current comparable homes for sale in your area know what prices are.

A competitive market analysis will produce a guide to help you estimate the best price obtainable in today’s market.

Market Conditions

Buyer demand, prices of recently sold properties, interest rates, availability of financing, condition of economy and time of the year will affect the sale of your home.

Location

Location will impact the Buyer’s response to your home. It is an important factor to consider when pricing your home and during negotiations.

Condition

By carefully preparing your property for sale, we can “package” it to stand out above the competition. I have enclosed “preparing your home for showing.”

Exposure

Our exclusive marketing plan is the most effective approach available. It will expose your property to more potential Buyers and help you sell your home as quickly as possible for the best possible price.

Story Time Information:

How do I sign up for Story Time?

You can either come in to the Children’s Room or you can call us (335-7549) to sign up for Story Time.

When can I sign up for Story Time?

Registration for Fall Story Times begins Wednesday, September 8th at 9:00 a.m..

Who can sign up for Story Time?

Story Times are open to resident children. Families who have purchased non-resident cards may also register their children for Story Time.

When do Story Times begin, and how long does this session last?

Fall Story Times begin the week of September 20th. Story Times will meet once a week for six weeks.

Which Story Time will be the best “fit” for my child?

Our goal is for each child in Story Time to have a fun Library experience. In deciding which Story Time to sign up for think about where your child will be happiest. If s/he would be happier going to a Story Time that you also attend, you will probably want to sign her/him up for a 2-3 year old Story Time or the Family Story Time. If your 4 year old is very active and gets a little “antsy”, s/he will probably be happier in the shorter and faster paced 3-4 Story Time, than the 4-K Story Time. If you still aren’t sure, please talk to us and we’ll try to help you find the perfect fit.

What happens if only a few children are signed up for a particular Story Time?

If less than five children are signed up for a particular Story Time, it will be cancelled (for that session) and the children will be accommodated in other Story Times for their age group.

Can siblings attend Story Times?

Depending on which Story Time your child is signed up for, siblings may or may not be able to attend.
• Toddler Time (12-24 month olds): No siblings.
• 2-3 year olds: Babies are fine, for other siblings please talk to Marie.
• 3-4’s and 4-K’s: These are independent Story Times, so siblings attending is not an issue. Family Story Time (for 2-4’s and a parent): Please talk to Marie.

Do Story Times cost anything?

Story Times, like all Library programs, are free to residents and non-resident card holders.
