Cranford, NJ

Foreclosures were on the rise in Cranford at the end of 2009, but the good news is that compared to the national, state, and county average, Cranford is still experiencing less foreclosures per number of housing units.

We will continue to track these numbers, and I suspect if unemployment stays near 10%, the foreclosures will increase a bit more before decreasing.

Looks like the Cranford NJ Real Estate market showed a strong recovery towards the end of 2009, which helped the closed sales to end nearly flat compared to 2008, when it looked like 2009 was going to be well below the 2008 numbers through the 2nd quarter.

"There is a green revolution coming," Congressman Tim Ryan said. "And we are going to be a part of it. We are going to shape it."

It is something that Ryan has been saying for some time. Now the Mahoning Valley is trying to position itself as a leader in Ohio in green job training.

The Electrical Trades Institute has dedicated a new windmill and four solar panels at their Champion Township Facility, paid for by a grant from the Wean Foundation.

"The wind and solar are training modules," said Mark Catello with the I.B.E.W Local 573. "Our goal is to train 50-percent of our workers. Right now we've hit 30-percent, which we are pretty proud of. We are hoping to continue with our training with this additional grant. The state of Ohio received $4.8-million."

The government is funneling nearly $100 million into training programs for green jobs, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis said today.

The funds, part of a $500-million green workforce development initiative through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will go to 25 projects around the country.

The programs are designed to help workers find jobs -- such as hybrid and electric auto technicians, weatherization specialists, wind and energy auditors, and solar panel installers -- in growing energy-efficiency and renewable-energy industries.

The money will be parceled out in Energy Training Partnership Grants ranging from $1.4 million to $5 million each. Projects in communities affected by the restructuring in the auto industry will receive $28 million.

While Cranford NJ has not seen nearly the number of foreclosures as other parts of New Jersey, there has definitely been an increase since the first quarter of 2009.
