About Tuckerton's Downtown Tuckerton

The Tuckerton Seaport, is located along the Tuckerton Creek. This one-of-a-kind attraction, in the heart of historic Tuckerton NJ, brings the Jersey Shore's maritime traditions of the past and present to life through people, exhibits and hands-on activities. Here you can discover the Jersey Shore's unique maritime heritage and the interaction between culture and nature on the Barnegat Bay. Experience the rich traditions of the Jersey Shore and its Baymen through the Seaport's recreated and historic buildings, demonstrations, interpretive exhibits, events, festivals, and more. Decoy carvers, boat builders, basket makers, and baymen entertain, educate and delight visitors of all ages. Stroll the 3/4 mile boardwalk and experience life on the Tuckerton "Crik". Identify birds and plants on the 1/4 mile nature trail. Tour the site and view garveys, sneakboxes, cruising yachts and party boats displayed on land and water.

On January 13, 2010 they will have a discussion about Pinelands Influence on Barnegat Bay.
Dr, Dennis Gray of the Rutgers Pineland Field Station will discuss how atmospheric deposition and Pine Barrens stream inputs influence the Barnegat Bay Ecosystem.

There is also an Exhibit called Holidays Through the Decades, which is open Through January 15, 10am to 5pm There will be a wonderful holiday display of trees, trains and treasures in Tucker's Island Lighthouse Gallery.

17^th Annual Ye Olde Towne Christmas in Tuckerton

Sorry you missed the party. You were missed and this is your invite to next year's gala. Just to fill you in on the one of the happenings in our small community, last Saturday, December 12^th the down town section of Tuckerton was transformed into a Christkindlmarkt of yesteryear complete with a visit from Santa.

Santa left his sled at home and rode in on the Fire Truck and stayed for picture taking inside the Fire House while across the street at the United Methodist Church the youth group performed for a Live Nativity scene where Mary and Joseph sat with baby Jesus and the Sheppard's corralled the animals for the children to pet. And, inside the church annex there was hot chocolate, coffee, tea with an assortment of baked goods provided free while the children selected inexpensive presents to purchase for gift giving to family members. It was truly a heartwarming experience to see how all the church volunteers providing such an open house to the community.

For those seeking more of an assortment for gifts, The Emporium was the ideal spot to shop that night. The owners of the shop provided great live music and gave free cookies and hot cider to all who stopped in to shop while in transit between the children's train rides at the Tuckerton Seaport and the Horse and Buggy rides being offered at the Old Grist Mill on Water Street. Just down the street from the Old Grist Mill is the Watermark Gallery that held special hours to provide the sophisticated shopper a treasure of unique gifts to purchase that night.

If that is not enough to entice you into coming out next year, just down the Main Street at J.D. Thompson Inn you could listen to the Carolers on the porch and enjoy the beautiful decorations and music by the fireplace with refreshments. And, that could only by topped by the Holiday Dancers from the Rising Star Performing Arts Academy's performance at the Village Shoppes next door to the Inn. Round it all off with a complimentary cup of clam chowder (Tuckerton was once called Clam Town USA for good reason) served by the Historical Society at the Old Borough Hall. If you were still hungry at the end of the night with all those free treats, you could get a 10% discount on a meal at The Grapevine or Tuckerton Beach Grille that night. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
