The Lengendary Shrine El Santuario de Chimayó is quiet now after a Good Friday pilgrimage of thousands who walked or drove or managed to get to this adobe church located in the village of Chimayo in northern New Mexico during this Easter week. People of all faiths who believe in the legend come here for the opportunity to rub the sacred reddish dirt on their body for healing and spiritual renewal. The dirt is free. The miracles happen as witnessed by the walking sticks, canes and crutches left behind. It is truly a special place where many say the heart and soul of northern New Mexico lives, thrives and inspires.

You must visit this place someday.

I was driving back from Tierra Amarrilla NM today and I took a few minutes to stop off at the Echo Amphitheatre near Abiquiu NM.

When you're driving south on 84 from Tierra Amarrilla you come around a corner and see prominent sandstone cliffs. The Echo Amphitheatre is located there.

Covered Picnic Areas at Echo Amphitheatre

There's a nice big parking lot and some picnic areas near the lot which makes this an ideal pit stop if you're driving between Chama or Pagosa Springs and Albuquerque.

The trail to the amphitheatre is paved and relatively flat most of the way. However, near the end there are a few somewhat steep stairs. The altitude here is close to a mile and a half, so you might get a little winded.

It's worth the hike however, because once you get back to the amphitheatre it's not only cool to look at, but it's cool to say something and hear it echo.

This photo show a closeup of the staining on the sandstone wall. The staining comes from minerals in the water runoff from above.

The walk back to the parking lot was scenic too.

Here's a nice shot of the sandstone cliffs.

Well, it was time to hit the road again and get back to Albuquerque. What did all of this have to do with Albuquerque Real Estate? Not much really, it's just about beautiful New Mexico.
