These passionate purple flowers from Pecos, New Mexico were in abundance during a weekend hike to the beautiful High Country. Not too sure what they are called but the color and texture is stunning, one is fully openend the second on its way. If anyone knows what these are please share in the comments.

Live From El Cerritto, New Mexico

This is a camera report from the Village of El Cerrito, in San Miguel Country, outside of Santa Fe. People made a living from livestock. Instead of owning a computer, iphone or car, every family owned a horse, a cow or two, maybe a pig and a plot of land. Thousands of acres of ranch land surrounded this icon of a typical thriving Hispanic community in New Mexico prior to the coming of the railroads and the court voiding of Spanish and Mexican land grants. Altough settled in the in the early 19th century and still a working village in the 1940's, today it is nearly abandoned. More about that story in another post. Today, land remains as ranch country where you have to see it for what it is and the stories it holds in the landscape. This beauty welcomed me just outside the silent village where livestock and horses still rule. Stay tuned for more snapshots and stories of New Mexico.
