I recently wrote a blog about the Mt. Rose Ski Resort and received several emails regarding homes located near Reno's most popular ski area. Below is a little bit of information to help you fall in love with the lovely South Suburban area in Reno, Nevada, 89511.

Located in the South Suburban area of Reno, Nevada, single family homes are found scattered along the Mt. Rose highway and Arrowcreek Parkway. Parts of the neighborhoods are rural, but much of the area has the feel of luxury resort living with many sprawling, southwestern-type homes.

The area has several upscale subdivisions, The Reserves at Monte Rose and The Estates at Mt. Rose,  along with a few upscale golf clubs that include Arrowcreek Country Club and the Montreux Golf & Country Club. The Wolf Run Golf Clubis also located in this area of town and is consistently voted a local favorite.

The area is also home to The Summit Reno shopping mall, a lifestyle shopping center, which has an array of upscale stores, restaurants and a movie theater. Its anchor stores are Dillards and Pottery Barn.

There are baseball and soccer fields, the South Valleys branch of the Washoe County library system. Here you will find the Redfield Campus, a collaborative effort in education and training that combines the educators of the University of Nevada, Reno, and Truckee Meadows Community College, the Redfield Foundation and numerous locally owned and operated business. Locally owned Savvy Boutique fully stocked with unique clothing can be found in this area of Reno as well.

Reno Real Estate ~ South Suburban Reno Homes For Sale

As more commercial installations of wind turbines become installed in Reno, NV I am left to ponder, when will there be more residential installations? We are in a natural location that lends itself to wind power and solar. It seems to be windy every day and arguably we have over 290 days of sunshine per year.

I thnk the reason we don't see more residential uses is the "nimby" attitude. Everyone wants to be "green" and vocally will express their opinion on how great clean energy is, except when their neighbor decides to put up a windmill in thier backyard. It's cool to drive a Prius, but not for your neighbor to have a windmill that you may have look at.

Hopefully these attitudes will change soon as we try as a society to promote more clean energy.
