Fly Me To The Moon - Movie Review

Vicente A. Martinez Realtor Brooklyn | Long Island | Queens Homes: Real Estate Sales Person in Woodhaven, NY

Fly Me to the Moon is the first ever animated feature flick to be designed, created and released exclusively in state-of-the-art theaters and IMAX screens with Real-D capabilities. Set in Cape Canavrel, Florida, circa 1969, three young flies-dreamer Nat, brainy I.Q., and overeating Scooter-feel that they are destined to make names for themselves, and set into motion a plan to secretly board the historical Apollo 11 mission to the moon with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Encouraged to go for it by Nat's wise grandfather, Amos McFly (the voice of Christopher Lloyd), the trio make it on the spacecraft, headed for an adventure unlike any that a fly has ever attempted.

In a motion picture with several standout moments, the most magical is easily the moon landing itself. Using historical transcripts as a valuable resource, the astronauts' initial steps on the moon (with Nate, I.Q. and Scooter looking from the humans' enclosed helmets) and Armstrong's well-known proclamation, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," are unexpectedly powerful and touching.

My kids liked it and we all enjoyed it. Check it out if its playing at a theater near you.

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D - Movie Review

Vicente A. Martinez Realtor Brooklyn | Long Island | Queens Homes: Real Estate Sales Person in Woodhaven, NY

I can honesly say that the book is a million times better. With that said... to my surprise, Journey to the Center of the Earth was actually decently enjoyable-- at least in 3-D (In 2-D, I can't imagine sitting through this entire movie). This flick was shot in digital 3D and is being shown that way in select theaters. The effects are a cut above most 3-D, although they're not jaw-dropping.

A few of the effects had me leaping and sliding back in my seat a bit. I mean, who doesn't want to see an enormous T-Rex barreling down towards you or be the sink for Brendan Fraser to spit in? (You'll have to see this flick to get that last one). The filmmakers take pleasure in some bold gimmickry every now and then, making characters point things directly at the audience, but for the most part the effects look out of this world.

This movie is more of a virtual theme-park simulation and is definitely in your face. Kids will be amused to a point, but most adults will see right through its unconvincing, IQ-deficient coating. Journey to the Center of the Earth is kinda like 'Jurassic Park' for Dummies. There are better family flicks out right now, but you could without doubt do a lot worse than picking this one. Find a theater showing the 3-D version, take the family and fling on your Real D glasses and you should have a fun, albeit forgettable time at the movies. By all means, if you see it, see it in 3D.
