In Westchester NY, hardwood floors are the preferred flooring. It is beautiful, natural, authentic, timeless and just goes with everything. It makes your space look larger and it is easier to clean. In the long run, it will also save you money (vs. carpet that gets dirty and needs to be replaced every 5-7 yrs). And, of course, it improves the value of your home.
Over the weekend, I read an article about why hardwood flooring is so popular...besides the obvious. What I thought was so interesting is that one of the reasons deep down inside that we love hardwood flooring is this overriding cultural trend towards AUTHENTICITY. With so much going on in our lives, and so much distrust out there (whether it's govetnment, corporations, banks, or whatever), we all crave people and things that are REAL and GENUINE. We take comfort in the people and things we can rely on. We love to look back to the past - the good old days, the simpler times...when life was easier and less complicated.
Hardwood flooring is a perfect example of a product that embodies that feeling. First, the wood has been around for a long time - often it's taken over 100 years for those trees to grow. Second, that hardwood will be here for at least another century enduring through the generations. Third, because hardwood is a natural product, it has natural variation. Each piece is different - some pieces are darker, some lighter; the graining is different on each piece. And, over time, it ages...and it gets more beautiful with age. It truly is a stunning pr
oduct.
There are so many hardwood styles and colors. Take a look at this hardwood flooring video to see the breadth of choices available for your Westchester NY home.

Are you looking to sand and refinish hardwood floors in Elmsford NY?
It's amazing what a difference refinishing your hardwood flooring can make. Your floors will look brand new and you even have the option to change the color. You can go light, dark, mid tones, or red tones. It can really give your home (or room) a whole new look.
If you have hardwood underneath your carpets, we can restore the beauty of the hardwood underneath. It's amazing what a big difference this can make in your home. And, believe it or not, it is usually less expensive to refinish your floors than to recarpet. Refinishing your floors will also improve your home's value and it will be easier to clean and maintain.
At Floor Coverings International, we are a shop at home service. We will bring the "store to your door" so that you can see the flooring and colors in your own home and lighting and color coordinate with your paint colors and decor. When it comes to sanding and refinishing, not only we will help guide you in color selections, but we will also test out a few colors for you on your floor. This is important because every floor is different, so it's best to see what the stain will actually look like on your own floors (rather than a tiny sample).
We offer both the standard refinishing process as well as a dustless sanding system. Dustless sanding costs a bit extra, but many customers feel it's worth it, especially if they have someone with allergies in their household. We offer both oil and water based polyurethane, and we will help you understand the pros and cons on each method.
We are proud of our work, but don't rely on our word...ask our customers! We have won the Angie's list Super Service award 2 years in a row, and you can even check our google reviews online. And, we will gladly provide with a list of over 30 customers to call.
Our estimates are always free. So, when you're ready to refinish your hardwood floors in Elmsford NY 10523, call us at 914-937-2950 and let us "bring the store to your door."

It's always fun to look back at the previous month to see which posts rose to the top. These are sorted based on clicks. This month has less clicks than usual as I had so many members only posts (due to our recent contest). The other aspect is that I've been so unbelievably busy with my business, that's been challenging to find the time to write some quality flooring posts. Ironically, my blogging is making me busy...and too busy to blog.
So, I'm trying to find some ways to blog efficiently again (yes, I will be doing some more templated posts) and soon I hope to do some more educational posts. I'm also working on my wordpress site and starting to do some guest blogging, so there is only so much I can do, and I certainly need ot prioritize.
The good news is that while the hits on my Active Rain posts were not stellar in January, the hits to my websites are, and ultimately, that is more important. My website traffic for my main site is up +42% vs. December and DOUBLE what it was last January. Now, I have my new The Flooring Girl website and that is just starting to take off. When I combine the hits of the 2 websites, I'm TRIPLE the number I had last January. There is still lots of upside, too.
Here are the top one for the month of January. The first 3 were featured; the 4th one on red oak vs. white oak is more educational on the flooring business, so I hope over time, this gets the most traffic.
