Jumper - Movie Review

Vicente A. Martinez Realtor Brooklyn | Long Island | Queens Homes: Real Estate Sales Person in Woodhaven, NY

The plot is full of fun events - David Rice discovers that he can teleport while in high school, and uses this "new powers" to get away from his home town as fast as he can. Several years later, he's living in an NYC penthouse, bankrolled by "jumping" past a bank's security system and taking (or should I say stealing) the loot in the vault.

The setup of this flick was about as cool as you can get. Despite a super-illogical premise, the movie really sold me on how the whole thing worked within the first 20 minutes, and it didn't take long for me to take pleasure in the good times on top of the Sphinx together with David and his yummy-looking girlfriend. In fact, I enjoyed a lot about the film including the cutesy romance amid the two leads, the many "jumps" and globetrotting situations, the action sequences, many of which moved about as high-speed as the film, but still managed to amuse by their complete originality alone.

I did feel like some scenes were edited together a little too quickly though, to the point that I had to rev my brain up a few times, so that I wouldn't fall behind (not that the plot is too complicated, mind you). One of Jumper's strengths is also its greatest weakness... The filmmakers do a good job of creating a realistic universe - at least, in science fiction terms. That's why Jumper doesn't really feel like a movie - movies are typically self-contained things, with a beginning, middle, and end. Jumper feels less like a movie than a television pilot or a comic-book origin story, and I say that as a fan of both of those media. But once you give yourself over to this stylish sci-fi adventure, it's actually quite interesting and could find a following. I have to say I kinda liked it!

New $7,500 Tax Credit for First Time Buyers

Vicente A. Martinez Realtor Brooklyn | Long Island | Queens Homes: Real Estate Sales Person in Woodhaven, NY

The Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 was just signed by President Bush with some amazing benefits for first time homebuyers.

Call everyone you know who wants to buy their first home (or who hasnt owned one in three years), this is too good to miss - its a $7,500 tax CREDIT (not deduction but a credit). If you have not owned a home in three years, you are a first time home buyer.

If you buy a home after April 9, 2008 and before July 1, 2009, you qualify for a credit. Call your friends who just bought a home since April 9th and tell them they may take $7,500 off their tax bill if they qualify. It has to be your principal residence, so rentals do not count. The tax credit is 10% of the cost of the home, up to a maximum of $7,500. So, if the home costs $100,000, you would get a credit of $7,500. This is not an additional deduction that lowers the amount of income to be taxed, it is a tax credit. In other words, you take $7,500 off your tax bill. What if your tax bill is only $5,000? The IRS will send you the additional $2,500 as a refund.

When was the last time the IRS sent you a refund because you bought something?

Club Chaos Eye Candy: The Queens Museum, Flushing Meadow Park

There is a plaque at the base of the Queens Museum that is dedicated to the memories of Detectives Joseph J. Lynch and Ferdinand A. Socha of the New York City Police Department's Bomb and Forgery Squad. They were both killed in the line of duty while examining a time bomb taken from the British Pavilion of the World's Fair in Flushing Meadow Park at approximately 4:45 P.M. on July 4th 1940.

This turtle run is dedicated to their memory and their families. Here is some eye candy from my run. Please keep these families in your prayers. They are in mine.
