Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine, an awesome landmark in Morningside Heights.
Located at 1047 Amsterdam Avenue New York, NY 10025 (between West 110th Street, which is also known as "Cathedral Parkway", and 113 Street) in Manhattan's Morningside Heights, the cathedral is claimed to be the largest cathedral and Anglican church and third largest Christian church in the world.

I just read a post by one of my favorite bloggers Why they call it Rock Creek by Patricia Kennedy, Washington D.C.'s quintessential REALTOR®. Earlier in the day I learned why they call it Morningside Park and Morningside Heights.
What's in a name?
The area that is now Morningside park was described as "inconvenient for use" by a city surveyor in 1867, meaning difficult to build property on, so it was made into a park, which was called "Morning-side park" because its east facing slope catches the morning sun. The neighborhood that developed around the park became Morningside Heights.
For many years, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, tried to get people to call the area Cathedral Heights, but was unsuccessful. The Cathedral, built before the impact of skyscrapers was intended to tower over the city. It does not, but West 110th Street is called Cathedral Parkway.

I currently have a 3 Bedroom exclusive listing at The Monterey (circa 1892) on Morningside Park. The morning sun is fabulous from the eastern exposures. The buildings that were built around the park were the first buildings in NYC to have 24 hour passenger elevators.

Kudos to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for keeping our monuments clean. While standing in front of my listing at The Monterey waiting for a buyer, I watched a woman from NYC parks and recreation clean "Lafayette and Washington" the monument at Lafayette Square. Hopefully she was able to get out the blue graffitti stain on the monument's base. The spray didn't seem to do the job so it looked like they patched it and covered with tape.
I'm having an Open House at The Monterey (directly opposite the monument) today from 12:30 - 2:00 pm. I'm hoping they were able to restore it. I'll take a new picture.
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!
