HIGHLAND MILLS - The Broadway League recently selected 30 theater-loving kids ages 11-16 from around the country to be on its first Kids Advisory Board. Highland Mills resident and Monroe-Woodbury High School freshman Jordan Zuber-Banks is one of them.

They were introduced at the 13th annual Kids' Night on Broadway pre-theater kickoff party at Madame Tussauds in New York City, following their first board meeting and lunch with Kids' Night on Broadway national ambassador Rosie O'Donnell.

"Being on the Broadway League's Kids Advisory Board means a lot to me," said Jordan, who described himself as an avid theatergoer. "Not only will I be able to contribute ideas that will influence many other kids, but also I will be able to meet kids from all over the country and hear their opinions."

The Kids Advisory Board will be a part of Broadway League programs focused on young audiences and will recommend ways to make Broadway a better experience for young people. The board members will serve a one-year term.

Kids nationwide participated in an online essay contest judged by Broadway and education industry professionals, managed by Thru the Stage Door. Those selected expressed a passion for theater and demonstrated past participation in the arts in curriculum or as an extra-curricular activity.

Kids' Night on Broadway is now held monthly. For more information, go to www.KidsNightOnBroadway.com.

What is the Village Building Department Thinking?

I was driving thru the center of the Village of Monroe today. I made the familiar left hand turn under the Erie Bridge towards Smith Clove Park.

I can't understand why the building department has allowed the new construction, at the corner, to have no setback. It's about 4 feet off the road & completely blocks your visibility. I'm not sure what the thought process was here.

Unfortunately, someone is going to get into an accident. I am glad to see the property being developed, but this setup is ridiculous.
