90 miles north of Manhattan NYC and 70 miles south of Albany NY, off exit 18 is a gem of the Mid-Hudson Valley. Welcome to New Paltz NY 12561.

A popular area for visitors with all New Paltz has to offer.

The Wallkill River runs through New Paltz. Along the River is the historic Huguenot Street with it's charming old stone houses. Minnewaska State Park is to the east along with Mohonk Mountain House a popular destination for vacationers looking to get away from the everyday. Various outdoor activities are available.

Rock climbers and view seekers enjoy the Shawangunk Ridge which is easily seen from New Paltz and surrounding towns of Gardiner and Shawangunk. Just to the west of the Thruway is the Main Street with shops eateries. Just before crossing the Wallkill Rive on 299 is the famous Water Street Market with shops and activities for everyone. Water Street Market lends out bicycles for daily use.

Running along the Wallkill River is the Rail Trail a popular location for bikers, runner and walkers.

8 miles to the East is Highland,the Hudson Valley Rail Trail, the Walkway over the Hudson and the Franklin Delano Memorial Bridge which connects Ulster County to Dutchess County. New Paltz is 11 miles to the Poughkeepsie Train Station and Metro North.

Getting around the area is really easy. The New York State Thruway Exit 18 is the New Paltz Exit. just 90 miles north of Manhattan. Once you are here there are many forms of transportation available.

It's obvious that the Ulster County Real Estate market is not as active as it was during the post 9/11 boom. However, Real Estate in Ulster County continues to be an excellent purchase and here are 3 reasons why:

• The Metro-North train station in Poughkeepsie is a mere 5 minute drive across the Mid-Hudson Bridge from Highland in Ulster County. You'll get to Manhattan via the train faster than one would coming from LaGrange, Wappingers Falls, Rhinebeck or even parts of Poughkeepsie itself. You'll also get more bang for your buck in Ulster County than for any of Poughkeepsie's neighboring towns.
  

• The Hudson Valley Rail Trail will soon be linked with the Walkway Over the Hudson. I've long been a proponent of the Walkway Over the Hudson as an economic stimulus to Ulster and Dutchess Counties. Anyone who's been to the Walkway realizes what a great treasure it is. The Hudson Valley Rail Trail in Highland will soon be extended so that it connects with the Walkway, forming an unbroken segment that indivuals can enjoy in addition to the one mile of beautiful vistas over the Hudson River. This will increase the desireabilty of homes in Ulster County. Furthermore, the Town of Llyod continues to work on developing their park along the waterfront.

• Ulster County is easily accessible via the New York State Thruway. New Jersey residents and downstaters can take a short ride up I-87 and get off at the New Paltz, Kingston or Saugerties. Ulster County has some quite popular attractions and the upcoming fall foliage and pick-your-own apple orchards are sure to be a hit yet again.
