Sometimes I believe Long Island has Feng Shuied itself. Just a tiny glimpse of the wonderful Spring that we've all been waiting for came on a day that was predicted to break a record and hit 60 degrees. The weather men were off a bit. Long Island hit 70!

I don't believe ANYONE stayed home. Laura and I decided to head up North to the lovely town of Oyster Bay. It was time to reconnect with Nature, spend time OUTSIDE after a very long winter. As you can see in the photos, the snow hadn't even melted yet after a whopping 14" had hit our area.

If you wander just beyond Oyster Bay, you will end up in a beautiful place called Oyster Bay Cove. We are doing a Feng Shui Consultation in Oyster Bay next week...and doubt we'll have the weather we had on Saturday.

Long Island has some of the highest taxes in the Country. As a matter of fact, EVERYTHING costs more here. These shots show why Long Islander's complain...but don't leave unless they HAVE to : )

Sale of homes in Oyster Bay Cove has gone down by 20% this year, from 25 homes sold in Oyster Bay Cove in 2007, down to 20 homes sold in Oyster Bay Cove in 2008. Right now, there are 39 homes for sale in Oyster Bay Cove. At the rate it is going, it looks like we have almost a two-year inventory assuming we do not get another listing which is improbable. It is a good news for buyers who want to move in this area. Prices range from $1,250,000 for a ranch style home to $4,600,000 for a colonial style homes.

Oyster Bay Cove, an incorporated village next to Oyster Bay, is one of the beautiful places on the North Shore of Long Island. Oyster Bay residents are just recovering from last week's event - Oyster Festival - and here we go again. Are we a party town? Bully!!! You can say that. Teddy Roosevelt's 150^th birthday celebration starts this Friday, Oct. 24 with two Roosevelt Art Exhibits at two venues. Living Roosevelt family artists' work will be on display at the office of Theodore Roosevelt Association at 20 Audrey Ave, Oyster Bay from 3-5 PM on Friday, Oct. 24 and the deceased Roosevelt family artists' work will be on display at the Earl Wightman House, the Oyster Bay Historical Society's home at 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay from 10 AM to 2 PM on Friday, Oct. 24.

On Saturday, Oct. 25, there will be a parade at 1 PM. The parade starts from Berry Hill Rd, right to South St., left to Audrey Ave to the Derby Bandstand between the Town Hall and the Post Office. There will be several marching bands and the Rough Riders will come to town. Nassau and Suffolk County Emerald Society Pipe Bands, the Gordon Highlanders Pipe Band, the Amityville Legion Pipe Band, West Islip Fire Department Brewers Continental Band, the State University of New York Maritime Band, the Oyster Bay High School Band, and the 7^th and 8^th Grade Band will all be there. Other groups marching are well selected and by invitation only. Mounted police and motorcycles and Jim Foote (TR impersonator) will also be marching. The parade ends with speeches at the Derby Bandstand.

There will be a free family day at Sagamore Hill, the home of our 26th President and currently a Federal museum, on Sunday, Oct. 26 with shuttle parking available from the Oyster Bay High School. A morning service at 10 AM and Evensong at 4 PM will be held at Christ Church where Teddy Roosevelt used to worship.

The Oyster Bay Chamber of Commerce with the help of the town placed patriotic buntings all over the town. Two overhead banners have been on display for the last few weeks on Route 106. The triangle where the statue of Teddy Roosevelt will be moved at a later date from its present location in front of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Boys and Girls Club is beautifully planted with mums.

Mort Kunstler, the famous civil war painter, has been commissioned by Roger Bahnik, CEO of Mill-Max Mfg Corp to do a special painting depicting Oyster Bay and Teddy Roosevelt. Mr. Kunstler painted a scene in the village entitled Teddy's Fourth of July. This is his third TR painting. Mort will be at the Boys and Girls Club on Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM and will personally sign the paper print or giclee on canvas after you purchase it.

On Monday, Oct. 27, there will be a service at TR gravesite at Youngs Memorial Cemetery. Special Presidential wreath from the White House will be placed on TR's grave. Then the celebration continues at Sagamore Hill where the U.S. Navy Band will perform. There will be a special ceremony to raise the U.S. 32 star flag. Teddy Roosevelt was born under the 32 star flag. Commemorative 150th birthday celebration items will be on sale at Sagamore Hill.
