The months of September and October in Rockland County are both beautiful and colorful. It's that time of year again when the leaves start to turn and the apples are ready for picking. We're lucky enough to have a couple of local apple orchards in Rockland County and the weather over the next week or so will be perfect for it. Why not head for the Orchards of Conklin or Dr. Davies Farm to pick some of your own?
The apple orchards are ripe for picking from early September through end of October. Among the brands available for picking are Macintoch, Golden Delicious, Delicious, Empire, Rome and McCouns (my favorite). In addition to apples it's almost the start of pumpkin season.
On weekends there are some great activities for the kids - a Kid's haunted house, a mini maze, bounce house and slide rides. So, if the weather holds and you'd like a fun family outing, check out the Orchards at Concklin or Davies Farm . Call ahead for farm events and schedules.
For The Orchards at Concklin call (845) 354-0369. They're located at 2 S. Mountain Rd, in Pomona, New York - in Rockland County. Picking poles are available for a $5 deposit fee with a $1 rental fee. The orchards are open for pickers from 10:00AM to 5:00PM.
For Davies Farm call (845) 268-7020. They're Located on Route 304 in Congers, New York and are open for picking from 10:00AM to 4:30PM. Picking poles are avialble here too, but only cash is accepted as payment (no credit cards).
Whichever farm you choose to go to to pick your own apples, have a fun day and enjoy! Happy pickings!

Welcome Home Rockland Boulders!! - Opening Night At Provident Bank Park
Tonight was opening night for the Rockland Boulders new home in Provident Bank Park in Pomona. Though not the first ball game of the season for them, it was the first to be played in their new home.
Provident Bank Park officially opened today in a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a game and fireworks. The Ball Park is the new home of the "Rockland Boulders", an independent profession baseball team that's part of the Can-Am league, and was designed and built to meet and exceed the requirements for a Minor League facility's standards.
The Ball Park can seat 4500 and at this first game of the season, there was a sellout crowd.
Among the park's many amenities are extra wide comfortable seats in the seating bowl, with an extra 3 inches of height separating each of the rows making it easier to see over the heads of those seated in front of you. There's also a wide 360 degree concourse around the field filled with features for all ages including a food court and a kids play area (BoulderBerg kids zone).
If you're planning a group outing to the ballpark, there's a traditional outdoor party deck or a group picnic area to hang out in and for corporate entertaining, there are suites and loge boxes varying in size that can accommodate both large and small groups in comfort and style. Each of the suites is equipped with several flat screen high definition televisions so guests won't miss any part of the game while partying. The sound systems and acoustics are all state of the art.
There is parking for 1200 cars and additional parking nearby for overflow with shuttle buses to the park. The ballpark is located off exit 12 of the Palisades Parkway and is filled with family fun entertainment amenities.
Be sure to to check out all the great new features when you visit the new Provident Bank Park...to watch the Rockland Boulders in action. You'll get to watch professional baseball without paying professional prices. Tickets are available for as low as $8.00 so you get a chance to enjoy America’s pastime without breaking the bank and best of all, it's all practically right in your backyard!!
