There is a sculpture in Port Jervis, NY which was installed this past October as part of the Arts Council’s Open Studio weekend. This was also part of an economic enhancement initiative for the City of Port Jervis and the sculpture is located at the corner of Front Street and Pike Street in the downtown business district. The sculpture has been very well received, draws a lot of attention and is becoming a landmark in Port Jervis. The downside is there is no illumination whatsoever.
Eric Stein, the sculptor, is proposing the installation of evening illumination and safety lights to enhance the beauty of the site as well as increasing evening security.
He has applied for a Spark grant through the Orange County Council of Arts to help with this funding. He is asking for your support and attendance at this event on Wednesday March 2, 2011. All attendees will pay $10 to show their support and food will be provided in return. This will allow you to cast your vote in support of this project. Several projects will be presented that evening. Each presentation will be just a few short minutes. The one project who receives the most votes from those present will be given the Spark grant for their project. If you would like to see this sculpture illuminated please come and show your support for the sculptor and the city of Port Jervis.
There are two existing power and lighting poles that are located near the sculpture that would work for mounting and support. Mr. Stein will also be approaching Orange & Rockland Utilities to cover the actual electrical cost involved with this project. He expects to have the lights on time demand mode and hope that they will be able to provide the electric as a service to public safety. This grant would go to the actual purchase of the specific lights needed to do the job. Depending on the cost for the lights, he will also lobby the City and Lycian Stage Lighting to cover the balance of the cost.
For any further questions please contact Eric Stein directly at 914-443-1308. To attend this important event:

These beautiful creatures are in a pond next to a nearby restaurant. Prior to seeing these I had never seen a black swan before. It seems that this pond is their home for they are there everyday when you go by. On this particular day we had a little photo shoot and they were very cooperative. For those like me who have never seen one of these before I hope you enjoy the pictures.

We took a ride out through Port Jervis NY this Labor Day and then headed up Route 94 through Hawk's Nest. The views are incredible and well worth the ride. I hope you enjoy the pictures taken at an overlook that span out up and down the Delaware which divides Pennsylvania and New York.
