Today we had wonderful weather in Red Hook and a perfect day for the annual Hardscrabble Day. Both young and old turned out for the event and had great fun.

In August the number of home sold doubled. More activity has been noted in the $400,000-$500,000 range; this group has been languishing on the market. Because of this trend the the average sale price in August was $339,100 up over July which was $259,523 for single family detached homes.
There is a still a large range of inventory on the market in Red Hook, the numbers above only reflects activities in the month of August,

The Red Hook Country Inn is located, as the name implies, in the town of Red Hook in Dutchess County NY.
I recently sat down to tea with Pat Holden who co-owns the Inn with her husband Chef Nabil Ayoub. Pat wanted to share some of the history of the Inn as it was passed on to her.
The building was constructed in 1841 as the home of the town's doctor. This home was located across from the lawyer, banker and the bank; you could say this was the It location.
Sometime in the early twentieth century the house was sold to the Knous Family. The property was then transformed into a tavern. The story goes, Mrs. Knous would cook that morning and sell it as lunch in the tavern for 50 cents per plate. And everyone in town knew what the Knous family would have for dinner later that day; whatever was served for lunch.
Over the years The Red Hook Country Inn had several owners. One owner transformed it into a fabulous restaurant, another added to the building and enclosed a porch.
Pat had always dreamed of owning a B&B so she finally left her job in New Jersey in economic development and went in search of a B&B. Her search took her as far as Massachusetts but things did not work out. She then spotted an advertisement for a B&B in the Rhinebeck area so she decided to give NY a try. That too did not work out but she heard that The Red Hook Country Inn might be for sale so she made arrangements to meet with the owner and a deal was struck.
Finally Pat was going to realize a lifelong dream and this too would work out well for her husband Nabil. Nabil trained at a prestigious cooking school in London and was chef to many famous people including Aristotle and Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Princess Margaret and other members of the Royal Family.
Both Pat and Nabil are meticulously renovating The Red Hook Country Inn. There are 9 rooms, and 1 suite has 2 bedrooms and can sleep 6. A couple of the rooms come with charming fireplaces and three of the rooms are handicapped accessible.
The Inn is known for its 4 course prix fixe dinner (reservations only). The 4 course dinner is full of international flavors: Mediterranean Salad, Moroccan Rack of lamb, Veal Viennoise, Chicken Veronique to name a few.
The Red Hook Country Inn is a favorite of many visiting Bard College and the Fisher Center. So, plan on staying here on your next visit. Pat and Nabil would love to have you as their guest.
