Red Hook is one of those towns where you are not likely to find a fast food chain; instead you will find many Mom and Pop operations.
One shop that was missing was a good burger shop, and in May '08 Chippie and Cathy filled the gap by opening their nostalgic burger shop know as Uncle Chippie's Old Fashioned Burger Shop.
Here you can pick from thirteen specialty burgers or just a regular burger. The meat for the burger is purchased locally and is organic. Besides beef burgers you can also get turkey or vegan burgers. It is also possible to get a chocolate or vanilla egg cream. You will love sitting down here for your meal as there is something real nostalgic about the place.I think great thought was put into the location - you can walk from Uncle Chippies to the movie theater, so, it is a perfect place to get a meal before or after the movie.
This Burger Shop is open as follows:
Tues - Wed. 10:30am - 8:00pm
Thurs - Sat 10:30am - 9:00pm
Sun. 11:30am -8:00pm
You can also view the menu on-line at www.unclechippies.com.

During the summer keeping the young ones engaged can be challenging. So the Mills Street Loft's award wining Dutchess Arts Camp new location in Red Hook was a welcome addition to the Northern Dutchess area.
At this camp the children will sculpt a critter, write poems. design a mask, build and fly kites, paint a portrait, have fun with food music and theater and most of all get the chance to make new friends.
You can still get in on the last week of art camp - August 3-7
For additional information you can contact the Program Director. Arlene Gould at 845-471-7477
So campers I have a criiter for you; maybe someone will sculpt this lizard.

According to a recent New York Times article the Hudson Valley is once again the place for some from New York City to buy their first home. The buyers are purchasing homes under $400,000. Reviewing the Red Hook real estate market report I noticed there were over 40 properties in the price range below $400,000, so to all you potential buyers Red Hook would be a perfect destination.
Last month I gave sellers some advice as to how to gain a competitive edge, it really comes down to pricing.
Buyers it's time to act!

Last year I wrote a blog about blueberry picking in Red Hook, NY and posted a short video. Well, late last week I received a call from someone who wanted to know the price of blueberries in my area. Immediately I asked her if she had been reading my blog, she said she Googled blueberries and my blog popped up. She told me she had first called the place but did not get a hold of anyone so she figured she would call me. We had a great conversation and after that I could not get blueberries off my mind.
It has been raining a lot lately, so outdoor activities have been placed on the back burner. Yesterday however, the weather was good. and since I would be visiting a relative today, who loves blueberries I decided to go blueberry picking.
I suppose with all the rain everything is very lush. You should see the size of the berries.
So if you are thinking of a family activity, this is a good time to go blueberry picking.
