Grasmere has a stop on the Staten Island Railway, with a 10-minute ride to St. George, the stop closest to the ferry. The Staten Island Expressway leads into the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Buses also run with regularity, making travel without the borough easy.

Roderick Cameron, a mid-19th-century developer and a founding member of the American Jockey Club named the area for Grasmere, an English Lake District village. In the 1880s, Mr. Cameron sold land to Philip Brady, who harvested ice from the pond that would bear his name.

Brady’s pond is a major attraction for Grasmere residents. It covers 15 acres and is actually the only freshwater pond within city limits to be fit for swimming. Complete with a sand beach, lifeguards and rowboats and pedal boats, the pond is the property of the private Cameron Club. Swans glide on the water’s surface against a backdrop of lush greenery and large houses. Only in NY..only in Grasmere!

There is also the public park, Brady’s Pond Park, which encompasses seven acres.

Grasmere Staten Island is located a few minutes from the Verrazano Bridge on the East side of Staten Island; with many small ponds and lakes. A busy neighborhood plenty of shopping close by & the busses roar thru the neighborhood en route to Manhattan or Brooklyn, mostly working class people live there. Staten Island railway runs thru Grasmere and into St George to the Staten Island ferry. The Staten Island ferry is a free ride into lower Manhattan. FYI the Staten Island ferry floats past the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
