The road ditches are alive right now in Southeast Oklahoma with beautiful native flowers. In the pasture, we would call them weeds... along the roadways they are wildflowers. The warm weather has arrived. My granddaughter and I took a walk yesterday and found several bloomers!

These are just some of the wildflowers that are currently blooming in our area. These were found growing around Lake Raymond Gary.

Fort Towson is proud of Chris Collins. He is the new president of the state's technology student association. TSA's website is oktsa.org. TSA has more than 13,000 student members in 198 schools systems in Oklahoma and more than 150,000 in all 50 states.

According to the local paper, Chris won first place competing in Cyber Space Pursuit and second place in Extemporaneous Presentation.

The sales tax in Hugo has increased from 9.25% to 10%. It was effective April 1, 2009. This is a non-expiring tax increase that voters approved in December, 2008.

The local hospital was in need of this help and the citizens over-whelmingly cast their vote for the hospital last December. This is very important for this area. Across the nation, small rural hospitals struggle for survival.

For a breakdown of where the 10% sales tax in Hugo goes:

The state of Oklahoma receives 4.5%, Choctaw County receives 2%, and Hugo receives 3.5%. The hospital's part comes out of the County receipts.
