Look Beyond the Tree Leaves and Flowers When Choosing For Your Landscape! Trees

Judi and Don Barrett Integrity Real Estate Services in SE Oklahoma: Real Estate Brokerage in Idabel, OK

choose landscaping trees carefully

Many landscpae plants, shrubs, and trees are chosen for the flowers or fruit that they produce or their fall foliage colors. While this should be part of the consideration in choosing these plantings, there are other things to consider that are of equal, if not more, important in your decision making process.

When deciding what trees to incorporate into your landscape, here are some other equally important

considerations:

  • The shape of the tree structure. You may be looking at bare branches for 6 months of the year. The shape of that body of branches should be pleasing to you. The amount of space that the structure body takes up is also important in planning the canopy of your landscaping.
  • Do the branches tend to point up and curve toward each other forming a circular form or are they drastic, pointing out in many directions or downward? Does it make you feel happy to look at the branch structure or distressed, anxiously awaiting spring when those bare branches will be convered.
  • The height of the trees when they mature. Is the tree going to shade that upstairs window? Do you want it to block out the sun? Is the tree under highline wires and will have to be cut when it gets too tall?
  • Do you have allergies? You may want to consider the pollen that the tree will produce.
  • Also to be considered is how the bark looks. When there are no leaves and the trees are bare, the bark becomes a much more pronounced part of the landscape.
  • So as you choose your landscpape plants, expecially trees since they are long lived, consider more than the color of the flowers or the shape of the leaves.
