Port Burwell on Lake Erie was selected by The Elgin Military Museum over Port Stanley as the home for the decommissioned Canadian Naval submarine HMCS Ojibwa.

It is estimated the sub and accompanying museum will bring 45 jobs and about 100,000 tourists a year to Port Burwell with a population of 1,200.

I wrote a tongue in cheek blog about the location of the sub and the protection of the Great Lakes. http://tyslondonontarioblog.com/post/1779477/submarine-battle-on-the-great-lakes-

Submarine Battle on the Great Lakes?

Yes folks, you read that right. Two small towns on Lake Erie, Canadian side (of course), Port Burwell and Port Stanley are aggressively lobbying the Elgin Military Museum in St. Thomas which has already acquired the decommissioned submarine HMCS Ojibwa from the Canadian Navy.

They plan to save the submarine from the naval scrapyard and tow it to their community and use it as a tourist attraction which would not only employ an estimated 40+ people but attract 100,000 visitors as well.

I should point out to The US Homeland Security that we will be no threat to America for the following reasons:

  • Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes, so you will see us coming 40 miles away
  • Being full of asbestos, the crew are breathing in their last gasps, and won't make it to Ohio
  • You are our friends and neighbours and its nice to have a big brother around
  • We have no torpedoes but we have Canadian beer, we'll lull you into thinking we are nice, polite and kind.

So Lake Erie residents, you can now go asleep peacefully that I have made the powers to be aware of a possible battle and if everyone takes action, this should be solved in 25 or so years!
