2011 Markham Ribfest - July 8, 9, 10

It's time for the annual Markham Ribfest. This year, the dates and hours of the Markham Ribfest are:

Friday, July 8, 2011- 6 pm to 10 pm

Saturday, July 9, 2011 - noon to 10 pm

Sunday, July 10, 2011 - noon to 6 pm

The 2011 Markham Ribfest is in a NEW location. It is at the Markham Civic Centre at 101 Town Centre Boulevard, Markham, Ontario (northwest corner of Warden Avenue and Highway 7).

Admission is free. Parking is also free in the area. However, parking is extremely limited at the Civic Centre because the parking lot is being used for part of the Ribfest.

The Ribfest includes a midway, games, great food, kids area, music and much much more.

Stiver Mill Farmers' Market Approval to be Held Annually

In the 2009 and 2010 seasons, a Farmers' Market was held weekly on Sundays from June to Thanksgiving on a trial basis.

At the Town of Markham Council meeting held on June 28, 2011, the Town of Markham granted to the Unionville Village Conservancy the right to hold the Stiver Mill Farmers' Market on an ongoing annual basis from June to Thanksgiving each year. The Stiver Mill Farmers' Market is to be held on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Stivers' Mill Farmers' Market is held at the Stivers' Mill at 20 Station Lane, just east of the old Unionville Train Station which is located on the southwest corner of Station Lane and Main Street Unionville (north of Highway 7 near Kennedy Road).

Congratulations to the Unionville Village Conservancy on a successful trial period.

Waste collection in Markham on Friday, July 1, 2011 (Canada Day)

The Town of Markham will NOT be collecting garbage, recycling (blue bin), organics (green bin) and yard waste on Friday July 1, 2011 for residents who normally have collection on Fridays in Areas A and B.

Friday July 1, 2011 is Canada Day and a statutory holiday. Therefore, collection will be delayed by one day.

Place your materials at the curb by 7 a.m on Saturday, July 2, 2011.

Second Annual Walk During Rouge Days - Markham, Ontario

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 1 pm to 3 pm, Town of Markham Deputy Mayor Jack Heath and the Markham Environmental Advisory Committee will be walking through the Rouge River valley from Toogood Pond in Unionville to the western entrance of Milne Park.

Residents are invited to join in on the walk.

The walk time is approximately 1.5 hours. No children or pets. The walk will take place rain or shine.

Some of the natural path is rough and unimproved but the Town of Markham advises that it is walkable for most people.

A bus will return you to the starting point.

Wear sturdy waterproof footwear, long sleeve shirt, long pants, hat and suncreen. Bring water, snacks, insect repellent and your camera.

Space is limited on the walk.

The due dates for the 2011 residential final property tax bills for the Town of Markham are:

If you are on the monthly pre-authorized payment plan, the due dates are:

• July 1, 2011
• August 1, 2011
• September 1, 2011
• October 1, 2011
• November 1, 2011

Property tax payments made be made by mail, in person at the Town of Markham office, at most financial institutions, by telephone banking and banking via internet. Banking fees may apply. You may also drop off your tax payments after hours at the drop box at the Thornhill entrance of the Markham Civic Centre at 101 Town Centre Boulevard, Markham Ontario (northwest corner of Highway 7 and Warden Avenue).
