When someone mentions the words Coronation Park in Oakville they are talking about one of two things. The park itself, located on Lakeshore Road along the shores of Lake Ontario in the western part of Oakville; or the community that surrounds the park.
Homes in the area that surrounds this popular park are situated on large, mature treed properties. Most of the homes in the area were built in the 1960's and 1970's. The majority of the homes were built of brick and consist mostly of bungalows, split-levels and two storey designs.
Being within walking distance of the lake has always made this part of Oakville highly desirable. Most of the properties boast quarter acre lots. Of course because the area is highly sought after by builders, many of the original homes have been demolished and replaced by large stone and stucco estate homes.
Local schools have been in place for many years and there is an abundance of other parks and forested areas. Shopping is very conveniently located at nearby Hopedale Mall and historic Bronte with its boutiques and lakeside restaurants.
Coronation Park itself has become famous for the annual New Years Day Polar Bear Dip which sees hundreds of brave souls taking a dip in frigid Lake Ontario to raise money for charity. For many years Coronation Park was home to the annual Waterfront Festival. Due to economics, the festival will not be held this year.
During the summer months, the bandshell at Coronation Park hosts weekly concerts. The Town Of Oakville is currently replacing the washroom facilities in the park and adding a concession stand and patio area overlooking the children's playground.
This is a favourite picnic spot for families and school groups. It's a great place to relax, watch the waves, and the wildlife and birds.
Homes in Coronation Park tend to sell quickly. It is possible to purchase a home in original condition for around $600,000 but renovated and new builds can sell for well over $1,000,000.

The real estate boundaries for Southwest Oakville are Dorval Drive to the east, Third Line to the west, Rebecca Street to the north and the shores of Lake Ontario to the south. This mature area boasts tree lined streets, and offers many different styles of homes including two storey, bungalow and split level designs. This is a neighbourhood of all detached homes. The average sized lot is about 75 feet by 150 ft. but there are some lots up to a half acre. Most of the homes in the area were built in the 1960's and 1970's. Over the years many new homes have replaced the smaller, older bungalows and many homeowners refuse to move from the area and update and renovate instead. Because of this, there is a low turnover, which keeps the prices up.
Southwest Oakville has always been a desireable neighbourhood due to its proximity to Lake Ontario and Coronation Park, in fact most people commonly refer to the western part of this neighbourhood as Coronation Park. The park itself is a popular tourist attraction in the summer when the
Waterfront Festival is held there. Also for many years Coronation Park has been home to the Polar Bear swim, which raises funds for charities. Live music plays in the bandshell on weekends during the summer months and many families use the area for picnics and to watch the boats sail by. Lakeshore Road, where Coronation Park is located is home to stately multi million dollar properties which front onto Lake Ontario.
Amenities in this locale include Hopedale Mall, the Oakville YMCA, Woodside Library & Kinoak Arena. Oakville transit provides transportation to the GO train station. Not far to the west is historic Bronte Village with it's shops, restaurants and Bronte Harbour and Marina.
