About Toronto's Scarborough

I was walking through Scarborough Town Centre this week. They happen to be renovating. It seems that they have been renovating this mall since 1980. When I was a teenager this is the place where I'd go with my friends to score weed hang out on weekends. I never used to like the Town Centre, but it's a pretty happening place now. They have some nice stores in there, not like the old days when it was dark, dingy and there always seemed to be a vague threat that I would be kidnapped and tortured by the vagrant who slept under the stairs leading up to the Bubbles Discount Emporium and Arcade.

To announce the latest round of improvements, strategically placed posters have been hung around the mall telling us, the public, exactly what will be happening. They have photographs of people who seem to be very pleased at the latest round of upgrades that are taking place. One in particular caught my eye.

I don't know about you, but I get suspicicious when I see people who appear to be so deleriously happy. It almost looks like the bottom half of the photo (if there was a bottom half) would be x-rated, he seems to be pressed against the glass doing something. I was intrigued, so I had to read the poster and find out exactly what it is that's puting this fellow in such a great mood.

There we have it. He is happy about the "New and Improved Washrooms" on the Lower Level that feature new vanities. That is indeed a cause for celebration, no wonder this guy can barely contain his joy. The prospect of new soap and towel dispensers would be enough to make even the most jaded among us leap in the air and grin like idiots. Maybe he had a bad experience in the old washroom and is looking forward to trying out the new ones - maybe he'll be first in line when they open.

Whatever the case may be, it made me happy to know that there still are people who can can take joy in the simpler pleasures that life has to offer.
