Uxbridge Residents along with the rest of Durham Region are expected to put out less garbage, or at least recycle more, starting March 30 2009.
We received a flyer in the mail spelling out some of the changes that are supposed to bring Brock, Clarington, Scugog and Uxbridge in line with the other lakeshore municipalities in Durham Region that have already achieved greater waste reduction rates. Starting March 30th 2009 only four bags of garbage will be picked up on a biweekly basis, That is down from the 3 bags currently allowed weekly.
Bag Tags
For residents who wish to put out more than the allowed number of garbage bags they will be able to purchase bag tags for $1.50 to put on the additional bags. In Uxbridge the tags can be purchased at the Town Offices, the Library or the Zephyr Library.
Residents who have three children under three or medical conditions that increase their garbage amount "may" receive special consideration by phoning the Region at 905-579-5246.

In his post You and "YOUR" Uxbridge Property Tax Bill -- OUCH!!!!! Barrie talks about the impact the new 2008 Property Assessment will have on your 2009 Property Tax Bill.
If you were wondering how much more taxes you will have to pay check out his post You and "YOUR" Uxbridge Property Tax Bill -- OUCH!!!!! You may also want to read some of his other posts on property taxes and assessment while you are there.
Remember the formula for calculating your tax bill "the Mill Rate x The Assessed Value = Your Property Tax Bill"
Read Barrie's post for the details but to give you and idea if the mill rate remained the same as last year a home assessed at $300,000 prior to the reassessment would pay roughly $3,886. After reassessment the taxes on that home would be approximately $4,614 if that reassessment was applied all at once.
