Friday's Foto - Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Multnomah Falls is located just 20 miles east of Portland, just off I-84, near the town of Corbett, Oregon. It's about a 40 minute drive from Hood River. Multnomah is the fifth largest waterfall in the United States with a drop of over 600 feet into the Columbia River Gorge below. I took this photo almost three weeks ago when I visited the falls with our sons and my parents. You can barely make out people on the footbridge part way up, which gives scale to the falls, showing how huge they really are.

Visit Vista House At Crown Point, Columbia River Gorge

We've lived here for just over four years and last weekend finally took the exit off I-84 to see Vista House at Crown Point. Located an easy 45 minutes from Hood River it is maybe the best possible vantage point of the Columbia River Gorge.

The Vista House was built in 1916-1918 as a memorial to area pioneers and as a comfort station for folks traveling the Historic Columbia Highway. It is a stone, octoganal building that towers 733 feet above the Columbia River and is registered with the National Registry of Historic Places. The on-site museum educates visitors about the local geology, history, the highway, floral and fauna. Vintage photographs lining the marble halls are especially worth seeing.
