What a surprise it was to see these docked down by the Marina in Hood River. These two vintage schooners had traveled up the Columbia and were getting a lot of attention today. I heard from someone who had seen them coming up the river say it looked like the wind was giving them some trouble. The sight of these couldn't help but make me think of pirates.
I just learned a little more about these ships. They are "The Lady Washington" and the "Hawaiian Chieftain" . They are on a "Rediscovering the Columbia River" voyage. They will be open for public viewing at the Hood River Marina this weekend. Click here for public viewing times.

There are several nice parks located in Hood River. Many people enjoy the Children's Park. This is a fun place to bring your children with swings, bridges, slides, forts and more. There is a large covered play area to the east and a large grassy open space as well.
Another quiet small park is Wilson Park which is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods east of the May St. Elementary School. Wilson Park has play equipment, tall trees, and grass and is never very crowded.
Jackson Park is located at the intersection of 13th and May St. very near the public swimming pool and Hood River Middle School. Jackson Park is home to the summer "Families in the Park" series of free music and also the Saturday night summer "Movies in the Park". Jackson Park has play equipment, picnic tables, restrooms, tall trees, grass and a stage.
