Parkdale Elementary School's Spring Music Program
Few things bring on a surge of nostalgia for me more than sitting on metal folding chairs in the school's gym-atorium, watching the elementary school kids sing songs they've been working on for months. They start singing and I'm right back in the 70's doing the same thing myself. Monday was this year's spring program at Parkdale Elementary School.
This year's program had a calypso, tropical theme which included songs like "Daylight Come and Me Wanna Go Home". The fourth and fifth graders played recorders for some songs (I remember getting my gum stuck in one in the fifth grade), while the ukalele club accompanied a couple songs. Our son is in the fourth grade, but I have to admit that I enjoy the kindergarteners the most. They're so sweet and little, excited, but slightly confused.

It's Getting To Be That Time Of Year!
In our family, another sign that spring has truly arrived is that our boys camp out, something they'll do a great deal of the summer. True, it's only in our yard, but a tent among the trees is far more interesting to a 10 and 12-year-old than a boring old bedroom.
Saturday ended up being surprisingly dry and warm so the tent was up and ready by late afternoon. Of course, the weather forecast still called for the temperature to drop to close to freezing during the night. But we figured they'd come in before they froze to death. Plus they slept in coats and warm sleeping bags.
Most folks who visit Hood River County to camp use actual campgrounds, but our yard requires far less packing and hauling and the bathrooms are a short walk away.
