Last week I had the opportunity to go with a group to the Hat Museum in Portland. Ok, I know, how does this have to do with Real Estate. I learned quite a bit about the history of the Ladd Addition, so it was real estate based. Anyway, back to the hats... Unbelievable amount of hats as far back as the mid 1800's. I didn't know too much about hats, so it was all informative to me. I learned why there are still beavers in Oregon. Hats had been made from Beaver fur, until someone discovered the silk worm produced a better material. I also learned that Victorian era hats are small and Edwardian hats are those large, I mean really large hats. There was so much to see and the tour is only an 1.5 hours so its impossible to see all the hats. So, if you have a client or friend, who likes hats this is the place to go. It is by reservation only. Here is the link to their web site.

Ladd’s Addition is between Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard and Division Portland, OR 97214 is named after William Ladd, and is known in Portland for its peculiar diagonal street pattern that is relative to the rest of the area. It’s quite easy to get lost while driving or walking through the zig-zag streets, but if you make it to the center you are sure to find a beautiful rose garden and rhododendrons that line the sweet center. You will also find American Elm trees along many of the narrow streets. Most of the homes were built between 1910 and 1925 and are listed as national historic places.
