I am sharing my favorite Japanese Restaurant in the Portland Oregon Metro Area with a bit of trepidation. However, I will overcome my selfish tendencies and continue with this review... ;>)

Saburo's Japanese Sushi House
1667 SE Bybee St
Portland, Oregon 97202
503 236 4237

There! I've done it, God help me and don't make me wait in line longer than I deserve. In fact here is the deal. In return for this review, you have to promise to give me "cuts" in line if you see me there. I mean fair is fair, right?
We had heard about this restaurant for quite a while, but every time we went by there was a line out the door and around the corner of the building. I being a rather impatient soul when I'm hungry always talked my wife out of waiting in line. BIG MISTAKE! I could have been enjoying this taste treat many, many months before.
We finally took the plunge one evening and got in line and boy am I glad we did. The food is great, the portions large and the price is reasonable. What more could you ask for from a restaurant?

Our favorite standby is the Teriyaki Salmon Dinner. They start you off with green tea to drink, next is a nice bowl of miso soup. You then get a cucumber salad before the main course. And now the main course: A very generous portion of grilled teriyaki salmon on a large bed of veggies with a bowl of steamed rice. But wait, that's not all! What meal would be complete without desert! They give you a bowl of ice cream with your choice of 4 different flavors to make sure you're full. All of the above for only $11.95 woohoo! I'm in foodie heaven. ;>)

Now what great Japanese dinner would be complete without sushi? Make sure you try that out also! We keep threatening to just eat just sushi for our dinner, but we love our salmon so much we just can't bring ourselves to do it!

Now remember, I get "cuts" in line. And just so you recognize me, I've shaved my mustache. Also I'll be the guy who tells you "hey look over there!" and when you turn back; I'll suddenly be in front of you in line. ;>)
I wonder if they will give me a "free dinner" for blogging about them??? Now that would be sweet! ;>)
Happy Dining...

When we came
across Sellwood Park,
it was part of finding the
United States’ largest hand panted mural, the Oak Bottom Wildlife Refuge,
and
striving to get a picture of the mural. It was lot of fun and the kids
loved, I
mean loved, this park!

This had all the things most parks have been taking out for safety, like a tire swing, teeter totters, large slide, and the most “deadly”, a merry-go-round. I’m sorry, I love merry-go-rounds and every kid I ever have known does also. (So please stop taking them out for safety, we lived and so will today’s kids.)

But, my kids ended up playing at this park before I finally decided it was time to go home and have the kids cook dinner for their mom. I got lots of, “Do we have to?” when I said we had to leave on this one and that is a good sign of how good a park it is.

This is part of my find
over the last couple days of,
“Really, I didn’t know that’ series and we found this one
while visiting the
Portland Memorial Mausoleum where my sister was laid to rest. While
there, we
found that over a two year period, on the back of the building, this
hand painted
mural was painted on the Westside of the building as is the largest
hand
painted mural in the United States.

Something else that was really cool to find out why were there was that the last horse drawn funeral precession was in 1913, since that date they have been using cars. (Really, I didn’t know that, I would have thought it would have been in the 1920s before that service completely stopped.)

I love my broker!
(His wife need not be jealous!)
How do I love him? Let me count the ways:
1. He is always there when I call. Even when he thought he could have had the swine flu and felt like he was going to die (and nearly sounded like it), he answered my call and had a helpful answer.
2. He is a happy guy! Always has an encouraging word and a positive spin on life.
3. He has a great company that has FREEDOM!
Maybe it isn't necessarily love, but there is a strong sense of appreciation and gratitude!
Who is this great guy? Gerry Mains of JMA Properties LLC, in Portland, Oregon, USA - that's who!

The Sellwood neighborhood has great restaurants, great schools, vintage jewerly and clothing shops and beautiful architectural style homes including Victorians, Cottages, English, and many gorgeous Craftsman Bungalows. Peaceful streets are lined with mature trees and local coffee shops. This is a great family neighborhood with alot of charm and community. Locally owned shops are everywhere and always supported. And of course my favorite...Saburo sushi bar and restaurant. Amazing!
Sellwood has an amusement park, Oaks Park, where a rollerskating rink also lies. The Sellwood bridge that leads into Southwest Portland is the southernmost of the Portland bridges.
