Don't Forget to Stage the Patio ~ we Staged this one for HGTV's "My First Place"
Sellers, remember that when your home is on the market, all outdoor spaces have the potential to expand your "living space" ~ and you need to "show" buyers how the outdoor spaces can be used.
Our company was selected to provide patio furnishings for a young first-time homebuying couple in Portland Oregon for an episode of HGTV's hit show "My First Place" that was aired today (it will be aired again on April 12th -- check your local listings for air time).
Our goal was to provide this cute young couple with fun, colorful patio furniture that they wanted, to expand the actual living space of their small bungalow. During our interview before filming, we determined that they wanted a table & chairs, two loungers for sunning, and a barbeque and refrigerator for entertaining their friends. Here are some Before & After photos of our project ...
Here is the space we were given to work with ... a small concrete patio off the kitchen. (The budget was for furnishings only, no repairs or updates.)

Our goal was to add color, flowers, and a dining set along with a barbeque (this one had a built-in refrigerator for keeping drinks cold) and a pair of lounge chairs ~ to add "life" to this small patio area.

Here's a photo of Jeff and Jocelyn, the young couple in front of their first place ~ they seemed pretty happy with their housewarming gift from HGTV!

St. John's Bridge is located in Portland, OR . . . and is one of the FOURTEENbridges that span the rivers, either the Williamette, or the Columbia. The Bridges of Portland, OR
Which is why Portland has the nickname:
BRIDGETOWN
After posting a blog about the bridges in Portland, I decided to do a separate blog for each bridge. They're so unique, so beautiful and their stories are so enriched and diverse (at least, I hope you think so too!)
St. John's Bridge
St. John's Bridge is located above Cathedral Park, in the St. John's neighborhood of Portland, OR.
The bridges towers/arch supports, are designed to represent a "Cathedral" motif.
St. John's Bridgeis a suspension bridge and one of the three in the State of Oregon that is a public highway.
Cathedral Park came first, in 1915. The bridge came next . . . and was built to help commuters, who had to rely on ferry to transport them across the Williamette. The "theme" for St. John's Bridge was all about keeping in the spirit of Cathedral Park.
Construction of St. John's Bridge began one month before the Stock Market Crash of 1929. This helped the area, as work continued. When completed, St. John's Bridge was UNDER BUDGET by $1 Million! WOW -- that was a PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT THAT REALLY WORKED!!
The green patina seen, today, on St. John's Bridge is a St. Patrick's Day homage. On that day in 1931, it was announced that St. John's Bridge would be painted green.
St. John's Bridge was dedicated on June 13, 1931, the start of the 23rd Annual Rose Festival.
David B. Steinman, an Engineer on the St. John's Bridge project, had this to say at the commemoration speech: "A challenge and an opportunity to create a structure of enduring beauty in the God-given wondrous background was offered us when were asked to design the bridge. It is the most beautiful bridge in the world we feel."
