The latest thing in real estate...walkable neighborhoods. There is even a very cool website Walkscore that talks about how walkable a neighborhood is. Buyers looking for walkable neighborhoods...you know who you are. You want to saunter out the front door down the street for your daily "vanilla mocha with soy" wake-me-up, stroll off to work, then grab groceries on your way home for dinner. Maybe the next day you decide to skip making dinner and head right to one of the local restaurants for some burgers and local micro-brew. If you think using your car is just for the hefty trip to Costco, then you might be a walkable neighborhood buyer.
The most obvious places for walkable neighborhoods are around the downtown core of Salem Oregon. Maybe you think condo living is the way to go. Thinking historic? You want walkable and charming? Think about Grant Neighborhood, Court-Chemeketa Historic District, McRae Park Homes, Richmond Real Estate, or Bush Park Homes.
If those old creaks make you wonder what people see in old homes, then consider some of the walkable areas in other parts of Salem Oregon.
Head west?
West Salem Oregon is one of the least walkable areas, but there is just one little neighborhood, Kingwood Park Homes, that is down in the flats of West Salem that is walkable to dining, and grocery stores.
If the thought of dealing with the bridge gives you shivers, then stay to the east of the river and go south. Sunnyslope Real Estate, Liberty Real Estate and Sunnyridge Homes are around the Sunnyslope shopping center. Groceries, a few eateries, and a fitness center are all easily accessed within a couple of blocks.
Needing something more affordable than south Salem? Then head east.
East Lancaster Homes are right by the Lancaster mall so there is plenty of dining, movie theater, and coffee access for those seeking more affordable housing. If you are wanting to use public transportation this neighborhood has great access to the bus lines.
