Sherwood Oregon's "Schilchting Farm" (AKA Grammas' Nursery) is a great example of what Sherwood represents. The small town country charm so harmoniously blended with new, a local business catering to its loyal cliental, rich in history and deep family roots from generations past...
"It's like the Saturday Market everyday in our town." You can just head on down Roy Rogers Road and on the corner of Scholls - Sherwood Road you'll see acres and acres of farm fresh produce, corn fields, sun flowers, a pumpkin patch and of course the colorful country store. It's filled with seasonal delectable's, fresh jams, flowers for your garden, the biggest and most beautiful hanging baskets I've ever seen, bird seed, garden decor and more. I can't forget to mention the "Signature" 12 foot roosters and large butterfly flags flapping in the wind as they line the road to guide you in...
While shopping there and making plans for our fall annual client appreciation event, I realized what a great Localism post this would make. Here's a picture of Sylvia after ringing up my purchase of fresh tomatoes and plums today... "they were delicious - just like out of my own Grandmas garden!"
There's not a warmer welcome than a "help yourself to whatever you like." you can shop in the store or grab a bucket and head on out to the garden yourself for a U-Pick experience - as if to say"help yourself to whatever's in the fridge." The Schilchting Family Farm has been running in Sherwood since they first arrived from Germany in 1878. They still own some of the largest land parcels in Sherwood today.
The family is some of the friendliest you'll meet. The owner Don told me, "the farm has been "family" run since the beginning." And to that, I say "thank you" - That's 130 years of hard work and commitment to the community. He calls himself the "Generation Leader" very fitting - and referenced himself as "The Last of the Mohicans, although he'd still like to see it the farm continue on - But who knows what can happen with being right off the UGB!"
With being such a part of Sherwood for 130 years and a magical part of the community, I'd like to see them continue on too. The farm is in a prime location - still in the country, yet just a short jaunt to town. It's perfectly located at the base of the Chehelam Mountain Wine Country. A town staple.
Many people may remember "Grammas' Nursery" off of 99W where they spent many years - While Sylvia, one of the many family members who work there shared with me "there's things I miss about our old location, but I'd have to say this one is more fitting - in that it's in the country"... I agree with you Sylvia, there's no better place for a country store than in the country - It's just perfect!

Thousands of U-Cut sunflowers for .25 cents a each - For just a couple dollars you can fill a vase and fresh cut flowers last longer. I wanted to pick this one, but these two little guys beat me to it... I thought it was best to just get the picture this time... If you noticed the dust kicking up in the distance, I think that just might be Don himself working the land!
