I've been looking forward for the Greystone's patio parties for a few weeks now. Winter is over, spring is fading, and summer is now officially here with the return of these events.
Every Thursday throughout the summer, look for the Greystone Restaurant's Patio Party.
Every week there will be food and drink specials, live music, a bi-weekly Raw Bar and great times.

May 27 Event -- Historical Society of Schuylkill County Program
The Story of the Danville - Pottsville Railroad"
7 pm, Historical Society of Schuylkill County, 305 North Centre St., Pottsville. Historian Tom Dempsey will speak on the Danville Pottsville Railroad which was the first railroad in our area. The railroad ran from St. Clair to Girardville between the years of 1828 to 1838 era. A very interesting story of local county history and how the railroad scaled the mountains of the area. SOUTHERN SCHUYLKILL
AUBURN — Memorial Day parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday, forms at VFW. Program follows at Memorial with guest speaker, Honorable James R. Ferrier. In event of rain, parade canceled and service held at 10 a.m., Auburn Church of God.
SCHUYLKILL HAVEN — Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 29 Schuylkill County will hold their Memorial Day service at 1 p.m. Monday at the Schuylkill County Vietnam Memorial on Route 61 in Schuylkill Haven (in front of Penn State Schuylkill). Gary Hess, mayor of Schuylkill Haven, will be the keynote speaker.
CENTRAL SCHUYLKILL
BRANCH TOWNSHIP — Memorial Day parade, 8 a.m. Monday. Outdoor ceremony at Llewelyn Elementary School following parade, main speaker Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Jordan. In event of rain, parade will be canceled, celebration held at school’s auditorium. Second ceremony, 10 a.m., Friedens Lutheran Church. Following service, ceremony at Phoenix Park.
MINERSVILLE — Memorial Day parade, 9 a.m. Monday, followed by ceremonies at Veterans Memorial, South Fourth Street. Memorial Day remembrance, 6 p.m. May 30, Union Cemetery, South Fifth Street. Wreath will be laid at grave of Capt. Robert Lawrence of the Civil War. Please bring lawn chairs. PALO ALTO — Memorial Day services, 1 p.m. Sunday, at monument.
PORT CARBON — Memorial Day church service, 6 p.m., Sunday, St. Stephen Catholic Church, Valley Street. Annual parade starts 9 a.m. Monday. Service following parade at Port Carbon Library/Veterans Memorial Park, Pike Street.
POTTSVILLE — Pottsville Joint Veterans Council 114th annual Memorial Day parade, 10 a.m. Monday, forms on West Market, between 12th and 14th streets. Program will follow in Garfield Square with keynote speaker, Col. Kurt Ryan.
SCHOENTOWN — Memorial Day services, 2 p.m. Monday, Vietnam Veterans Joseph C. Cappella Memorial Home. George Acaley will receive award from U.S. Rep. Tim Holden, D-17.
NORTHERN SCHUYLKILL
FRACKVILLE — Memorial Day parade, 9:30 a.m. Monday, M&T Bank, South Lehigh Avenue and Arch streets. Program at Veterans’ Monument, Spring Street at Frackville Memorial Park. Guest speaker Attorney Christine Holman.
GIRARDVILLE — Memorial Day parade, 9 a.m. Monday, services at Veterans Memorial, Third and Ogden streets. Keynote address by Cmdr. Bill Gower, special guest Maj. James R. Bittner. In event of rain, services at American Legion, 122 W. Main St.
MAHANOY CITY — Memorial Day church service, 10 a.m. Sunday, First Congregational Church, 701 E. Centre St. Memorial Day program, 2 p.m. Sunday, Veterans Memorial and M60-A3 tank, located at Centre and Catawissa streets. Keynote speaker is state Sen. David Argall, R-29. Annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, forming at the Mahanoy Area School Complex at 10:30 a.m.
RINGTOWN — Memorial Day service, 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Old White Church. Guest speaker Gen. Dean Ertwine, U.S. Army, retired. SAINT CLAIR — Memorial Day service, 1 p.m. Sunday, cafetorium of Saint Clair Elementary/Middle School. Main speaker is Mark Atkinson, Navy 1st Class Petty Officer, a veteran of Iraqi Freedom.
SHENANDOAH — Memorial services, 9 a.m. Sunday, First Baptist Church, Oak and West streets. Memorial Day parade begins 9 a.m. Monday in front of Phoenix Fire Company. Keynote address presented by Schuylkill County Commissioner Francis McAndrew.
WESTERN SCHUYLKILL
TREMONT — Memorial Day program, 1 p.m. Sunday, Robert P. Wiscount Veterans’ Memorial Park, Main Street. Sponsored by Tremont Community Organization. Call 695-2199 or 695-3792. Parade begins 10:45 a.m. Monday at West Laurel and South Pine streets. Program 11:15 a.m. at Reformed/Lutheran Cemetery with speaker Thomas Symons. 7:30 a.m. at Tuscarora State Park John Domalakes, will lead an early morning bird walk at State Games Lands 227 across from Weiser Forest Fire Station on Tuscarora Park Road. Some easy hiking will be done on the trails. Those attending are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes, waterproof preferably, and bring along binoculars.

May 18 Diakon Living & Learning After 50 presents "A Day at the Ranch"
10 am, Pleasant Valley Ranch, 88 Arrow Road, New Ringgold. The morning will start with a scenic tractor-pulled wagon ride, a tour of Pleasant Valley’s boarding facility, plenty of hands-on time with the horses including grooming, tacking, and riding, instruction in lassoing and whip-cracking, and a lively game of tug-of-war. You will then have a chance to ride two or three horses on the indoor ring. If you are the adventurous type you will proceed outside for a beginner riding lesson. Each session will cover breathing practices to relax and energize the body, gentle postures and stretches to promote strength and flexibility, progressive relaxation to rest the body, and meditation techniques to calm the mind. May 24 Environmental Education Programs for Locust Lake State Park
7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Have you ever seen yourself in the eyes of a great horned owl? Peggy Hentz and Morrie Katz from Redcreek Wildlife Center will present a program on the owls of Pennsylvania. We will begin with a power point presentation followed by a live owl program. Meet Gabby, the great horned owl and other species of owls from our state. Program will be held in the Locust Lake Amphitheater, program pavilion if it rains. The program is free, but donations are greatly appreciated to fund wildlife rehabilitation efforts. 8:30 pm -- 9 p.m. following the owl program, hang out and watch a movie with us. The feature will be "Eyewitness Survival". This movie reveals how all life-forms face a daily struggle for survival, whether they are prey or predator. May 25 Environmental Education Programs for Tuscarora State Park
10 am - 2 pm. Join us as we hike Crow and Lake View Trails. This trail is 5.5 miles and moderate in difficulty. We will hike all the way down to the dam for some spectacular views. Meet in Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road. Bring water and a bag lunch, so we can sit on the dam and enjoy the lake view. May 26 CHA Level 1 Western Horsemanship School
Pleasant Valley Ranch, 88 Arrow Road, New Ringgold. Become a horseman (or horsewoman), not just a rider! Learn essential "Horse Sense" principles and put them into practice as you safely care for and handle horses on the ground. Study the parts of the horse and western riding equipment. Halter, tie, groom and saddle your own steed. And of course, spend hours in the saddle developing your ability to control a horse up through the trot. This equally fun and educational school is taught by CHA Certified Horseback Riding Instructor, Alexis Davidovich. Successful completion of CHA Level 1 Western requirements will earn a CHA Level 1 Western Certificate and option to attend the Level 2 Horsemanship School. Horsemanship Schools will run 9am – 3pm Monday thru Friday, with the exception of Memorial Day. All participants are required to wear proper attire including boots with a heel, long pants and riding helmet. Bring a bag lunch for each day. We have a refrigerator to keep things cold. All learning materials are included in the price of the school. Classes are limited to 8 people and are on a first-come-first-served basis.
