Ever since 1963, Funk's Farm Market, on South Duke Street, Millersville, PA, has been a landmark for Lancaster County locals.

Funk's Farm was founded 135 years ago in 1873 by Amos G. Funk. Forty-five years ago the farm market was established.

Every spring a wonderful selection of annual and perennial flowers are available to beautify local gardens.

There is also a well-stocked garden supply area, with gardening equipment, landscaping decorations, fertilizers and weed control products.

Late in the summer, the Butterfly House will be open behind the market. Shrubs are available in the back as well, including butterfly bushes that will attract many butterflies.

In the farm market itself, locally grown strawberries are on display. Through the summer, fruits and vegetables will be available in season, ending with fresh local corn in late summer and pumpkins in the fall. Wonderful baked goods include home made pies, cookies and breads, and even home made fudge is on sale.

The gift shop features scented candles, Pennsylvania Dutch gifts, and country home decorations.

If you're near Millersville, be sure to check out Funk's Farm Market. The Market is open Monday through Saturday during the spring and summer. Closed Sundays.

As I drove through Millersville, PA this morning, traffic was blocked on North George Street, the main thoroughfare past the University. There were several Millersville University police cars, a policewoman directing traffic, and what looked like a TV news crew truck.
At first I thought it must have been another vising politician. With the Pennsylvania presidential primary scheduled for April 22, Hillary had been here last week with a large police entourage, and Senator Obama was in Lancaster earlier this week.
It turned out that the University was under lockdown for 90 minutes. A student had reported to police that he was afraid of another student. He apparently believed that the other student had a gun and was a threat to the student body. With recent shootings at other universities, such reports are taken very seriously. A student was detained and taken in for questioning.
Penn Manor High School and Eshleman Elementary Schools, both nearby and in the Penn Manor School District, were also locked down.
Students were told to remain calm, to stay inside their buildings, and that they were not in danger.

If you're planning on travelling through or around Lancaster County PA, specifically anywhere near Millersville Boro, you might want to heed some traffic updates on the radio before you get into your car on Tuesday, March 18th.
Hillary Clinton will be making a stop while campaining in Pennsylvania. She's set to arrive in Millersville at 7pm. I believe that the Pucillo gym doors will open at 5pm, and they are expecting about 3,000 people. Hillary's people said confirmation won't come until it's closer to the time (how much closer than the day before??). But, this is what the University officials are saying. It would be nice if they were told for sure, so that they could prepare!
I will be showing homes not too far from Millersville on Tuesday, but luckily our showings will be earlier in the day. I don't have any traffic pattern updates yet, but if I hear of any road closures, etc., I'll update them here.
Of course, it goes without saying that if you are interested in Millersville Homes for Sale, give me a call and we'll work around the campaining traffic! Visit www.JeannieSellsLancaster.com for all of your Lancaster Real Estate needs. I assist Republicans and Democrats equally!

Lancaster County welcomes the arrival of the Atlantic Coast Patriots Minor League Football Organization! I have received an email regarding this information, and have been given permission to forward it to spread the news:
We would like to announce the arrival of the Atlantic Coast Patriots Minor League Football Organization here in Lancaster, Pa.
We are a non-profit sports team that will compete in the East Coast Football Alliance this spring. The league is composed of 20 teams. The goal is to feature local football talent at an affordable cost to the public and at the same time benefit and pay tribute to military veterans and public service providers such as VETERANS, FIRE FIGHTERS, POLICE, EMS, here in the Susquehanna Valley.
The Patriots have formed a partnership with Millersville University. We proudly announce Biemsderfer Stadium as our home field for our 2008 season. We will kick off March 22nd at Millersville University with a half time 50 yard line recognition event to honor all military veterans attending the game that day. This half time tribute will be done at all Patriot home games throughout the season.
The Lancaster City Fire Department is in the early stages of raising donations to erect a bronze statue memorial to recognize all of the Lancaster City Firefighters who have died in the line of duty protecting our city over the last 125 years. A portion of out net proceeds from each game will be donated to the statue fund.
On our website www.acpfootball.org you can find more details about the team and our community efforts. Our season will consist of five home games and five away games. And hopefully home playoff games, to be determined. We are calling on you to attend our games and support not only football, but the people that defend and protect our country and most importantly YOUR COMMUNITY! The football players are striving to get ready and give you and your children a team to be proud of. Our team practices in Palmyra, Pa inside a sports facility called IN THE NET. Visit their website www.inthenet.com to see the beautiful practice facility that was afforded to us. Feel free to bring your children and your friends to see us practice every Wednesday night from 8:30-11:00pm. The snack bar is available, remember a jacket! We keep the temperature at approximately 50 degrees to closely mimic the outside conditions of a spring season.
We are currently planning for admission rates to be very close to what is written below. Adults $6.00 Children under 12 $4.00 Military ID $5.00 Military Purple Heart FREE MU students w/ID $4.00. Please post this letter and forward it to all parents, children, business owners and individuals here in the Lancaster community. Season passes are available by contacting ATLANTICCOASTPATRIOTS@YAHOO.COM. The Atlantic Coast Patriots is a Non-profit group who is offering an opportunity for young adult athletes to continue to play football during the spring, and offer them a place to grow in the community. This organization was formed in November of 2006, but has already been involved in the community.
The football team does several things during the year to support our community. During 2007, the Patriots have completed our first season with a 4-4 record, making the playoffs in our inaugural season. For the 2008 Season, the Patriots are coming to Lancaster to play, and we are looking forward to an exciting season with some local athletes. As an organization, we have many plans to give back to the community. One of the challenges the Patriots gladly accepted, was to help the Lancaster City Fire Department raise funds to install a Fallen Firefighters Memorial in front of Station #3. If you are interested in sponsoring and/or advertising in programs and events, please contact the persons indicated below. We look forward to hearing that you will help The Atlantic Coast Patriots become an elite football organization in the South East Pennsylvania area.
Thank you for supporting the Atlantic Coast Patriots!!
