Frenzy at the Super Market During a Snow Storm !

Christopher and Stephanie Somers - Realtors - Philadelphia Real Estate : Real Estate Agent in Philadelphia, PA

Stephanie and I were all out of food today after the Christmas holiday so we took a trip to Whole Foods. It just so happened the same time we went it was right before a huge snow storm that was coming to Philadelphia so everyone and their mother was doing their shopping !

IT WAS CRAZY !!!

I had a bit of panic attack when I first saw the line to check out but then Stephanie reminded me that "every moment can be a moment" . If you are on the east coast, stay warm and safe through this snow storm !

The Ben Franklin Parkways Gets a Cultural Boost with Moore College of Art and Design's Museums for America Grant

Christopher and Stephanie Somers - Realtors - Philadelphia Real Estate : Real Estate Agent in Philadelphia, PA

Moore College of Art and Design has received a federal grant under the Museums for America program. The $79,138 grant will be used to showcase photographer Wendy Ewald's nationally acclaimed "Literacy Through Photography" work in Philadelphia. Part of the grant will also be used to fund the School District of Philadelphia in 2010-11 for the “Arts Rising” program, which aims to improve literacy and arts access for school-age children. The Academy of Natural Sciences has received a grant as well, meaning big news for cultural institutions along the Parkway in Philadelphia.

As Stephanie is a graduate of Moore, we would like to congratulate the lauded center of learning for expanding the arts in Philadelphia. We know that the grant was well-deserved and we encourage you to check out Ewald's exhibit. Information is listed below.

Wendy Ewald - Secret Games: Collaborative Works with Children 1969 - 1999 is currently on view in The Galleries through October 16. In an exhibition spread across three galleries over five months, Secret Games showcases the scope of Ewald’s work and the powerful results of her collaborations with children. The exhibition features approximately 200 photographs along with video installation, a reading room and project documentation.

Mayor Michael Nutter will deem June 30 "Hoagie Heritage Day" with a hoagie building competition, a Rocky look-a-like contest, and a screening of the Rocky film at 9 pm. Only in Philadelphia would an event like this ever make sense. Go grab a bite just to say you did.

A Museum Without Walls in Philadelphia

Christopher and Stephanie Somers - Realtors - Philadelphia Real Estate : Real Estate Agent in Philadelphia, PA

I have a confession to make: museums in the summer give me claustrophobia. It's not that I don't enjoy the exhibits - it's just that I'd rather be outside, in the sunshine or the fresh air. Lots of air conditioning and I just find myself with my arms crossed, dreaming of the moment when I see the outdoors again. But we're a city of museums and fantastic art exhibits worth checking out, and I'm always game for First Friday. I needed a solution.

That's why Museum Without Walls, a new way to experience art outside in Philadelphia, sounds just like my kind of thing. The audio program, from the Fairmount Park Art Association, launches on June 10 and will be available to the public for free. You can access a tour through your cell phone or online. Which makes it even more my thing.

So what exactly are these audio tours? 35 sculptures along the Ben Franklin Parkway and Kelly Drive will allow anyone, anywhere, learn a little more about Philadelphia's outdoor art. The great thing about our city is that there is art all around us, with outstanding sculptures and installations en plein air.

Next time you're taking a walk or even a run along the Parkway or Kelly Drive, listen to some art on your way.

You Have to Kiss a Lot of Frogs Before You Find a Love Burger

Christopher and Stephanie Somers - Realtors - Philadelphia Real Estate : Real Estate Agent in Philadelphia, PA

Frog BurgerGet ready for another outdoor burger shack. Frog Burger opens on the Parkway in June, from Frog Commissary Catering. It will be outside of the Franklin Institute in the Art Museum area.

This isn't just any burger joint, however. Expect items like chilled gazpacho and grilled sweet corn with chili lime butter, in addition to burgers such as the Love Burger, which comes smashed between two grilled cheese sandwiches and special sauce. Whoa. Or go with a regular burger or a healthier turkey burger. Hot dogs and Chesapeake crab rolls are also up for grabs. Desserts include shakes with Philadelphia Bassett's ice cream or cake shakes made with Frog Commissary's legendary carrot cake or their chocolate "killer" cake.

Care for a beverage? Local beers like Fleur de Lehigh and Kenzinger will be available, along with red or white wine, as well as red or white sangria.

The burger shack warns that its burgers are so juicy, you may need a bib, but don't worry, because they'll be selling them for customers who want to keep neat. Or take a silly photo. They'll also use recyclable products and green alternatives in their packaging.

If you're coming in from out of town, the Franklin Institute parking garage will offer discounted parking after 5 pm for Frog Burger customers.
