Drexel University's new president, John Fry, announced a goal of improving the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel's campus. Given that he was part of Penn's initiatives to improve University City during the 1990's and 2000's I think it's safe to be optimistic that he will have a positive impact on the Powelton Village and Mantua neighborhoods just north of Drexel. Along with expanding Drexel's security presence, Mr. Fry announced plans to encourage Drexel employees to purchase and maintain homes in the neighborhood, and also spoke of cracking-down on sub-standard off-campus housing, a serious problem that too often flies under the radar throughout Philadelphia.

Powelton Village is part of University City. The tree-lined streets of Powelton Village shade many Victorian-style and historic homes. Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania are nearby, drawing a student population to the area. The Lancaster Avenue Commercial Corridor is a neighborhood hub with its galleries and community center. You'll find locals sipping coffee and engaging in conversation at the Green Line Cafe as you watch the trolleys ride up Lancaster. Yogis will be toting their mats to Power Yoga Works.
Powelton Village has a little something for everyone hidden on its winding, hilly streets. From arts and culture to the wide variety of dining options, the emerging area is home to residents from many walks of life.

Our Clients Rock, Literally !
Stephanie and I were invited by a client to go see their daughter play in her band at this cool University City Cafe with Live Music including several bands each playing a set. The coffee shop is The Green Line Cafe in University City / Powelton Village. We are so glad when we went. Thank you Richard and Mindy (they are our clients) ! Their daughter who attends Drexel University, is an extremely talented musician and performer
with a phenomenal voice. Her band "When I was 12" put on an excellent display of original music with charming melodies and great lyrics, and even had an encore. The Green Line Cafe hosts a live music venue in a warm and cozy coffee house setting. We really enjoyed being there and spending time with our clients. We do not get into the University City area nearly as much as we'd like to. This was the perfect opportunity to not only enjoy the live music but to spend time with our new friends.
In our business, we get the opportunity to meet with and connect with so many people ! But it warms our hearts when we get asked to mingle outside the office. For Mindy and Richard, the clients we mentioned above, going to see their daughter Adrienne perform in their band was one of the biggest complements we could receive. "When I was 12" is a great band but we are really the biggest fans of our clients.
It is the nature of our career to be instrumental (pun intended) in helping folks through the process of one of the most important times of their life. We can really really develop a meaningful trust and camaraderie with our clients in a few short months. We feel like we know we are doing something right when after a settlement we can meet up with our clients for a celebratory dinner, mingle at a party or just hang out at a The Green Line, which to us is not only just A Cool Cafe in University City but a place we connected with great people ! The coffee is good too !
So, it will not be the last time we see When I Was 12. They will be doing many more shows in the future. The band has a few CD's that they SOLD OUT of at the Green Line Cafe the night we saw them. It will not be the last time we check out the cool live music in University City either. We'd like to check out a few more places like that.
Any suggestions?
