The St. Petersburg Times recently reported that almost 4,000 students left the Hillsborough County school system during the 2006-2007 school year.  That is a HUGE number!
It's apparent to me that a big part of this gigantic enrollment drop is a direct result of our area's out of control property tax rates.  Combined with mortgage payments, many just can't make the numbers work and, like Elvis, have "left the building."

Recent statistics show Home Sales in the Tampa area are up 46% since January 2008.
March sales showed an increase of 42.9 percent from the previous month. 1,162 units sold throughout the county in March compared to 813 for the month of February. The March figures also reflect a 46 percent increase from January's total of 791 units sold.

This October will mark the first Hillsborough County Fair in its "new home" of Valrico.  After years of debating a permanent home, organizers are thrilled to implement the upcoming festivities for this year's event.  In years past, the Fair has been hosted at the State Fair Grounds, Raymond James Stadium and Winthrop.The new-permanant location can be found off S.R. 60 and Sydney Road.
