News for North Carolina

Realtors Intimidating Politicians? Spare Me! - Jul 23 12:38 PM
I've written before, as have several others, about the argument in the North Carolina legislature about whether or not to allow the option for a land transfer tax.If you're not familiar and don't want to follow the link, the lowdown is that it's a proposed 1% tax on sellers of real estate.  Straight out of sellers' pockets, supposedly to pay for improvements to infrastructure in the counties where the property is located.  The North Carolina Association ...

Lake Norman has Plenty to Offer Wine Lovers! - Jan 24 03:08 PM
When one first thinks of life on Lake Norman, you probably visualize picnics, sweet tea and ice cold beer.  However, with the influx of upscale restaurants and our high-end real estate has come greater interest and opportunites for wine lovers.   When it comes to buying wine and wine tastings, the class of the field is 202 North Main in Historic Downtown Mooresville.  When I first arrived here in 2005, my parents (who had a vineyard in Napa Valley CA for ...

There will soon be another way to get to Bear Island.  Friends of Hammocks' Beach State Park are purchasing kayaks and lessons will be available.  At the present time, the only way to get to Bear Island is by Ferry or personal boats.  These kayaks will provide the general public with another option.
Donations are in place for the kayaks and are being sought for a wheelchair that could be used on the beach.    The ...

Durham, North Carolina mourns the death of Lista Yarbrough...a fellow REALTOR® and my friend - Jan 17 05:30 PM
Today, after a five year battle with cancer, Lista Yarbrough went home to be with the Lord.
(July 1, 1973 - January 17, 2008)
As the Vice President of the Durham Regional Association of REALTORS® and a top-producing agent with Realty Executives Triangle, Lista was well-known and well-loved by her peers in the real estate business. Since her diagnosis of cancer in 2003, Lista has fought couragiously...openly sharing her story in order to inspire others to fight also. Her ...

Get Ready for a FIGHT! - Jul 30 08:45 PM
OK, all ye citizens of North Carolina.  Gird your loins for a battle in each and every county. The legislature, in their infinite wisdown (THROW THE BUMS OUT!), voted to allow the individual counties to have referendum to institute land transfer taxes.  Granted, they maxed the allowable tax at 0.4% of the sales price instead of the proposed 1%, but that's still TOO MUCH!You'll note that in every article written about this tax, it comes up ...

Significant Changes in the Greater Charlotte MLS Regarding Square Footages - Mar 24 08:17 AM

A rather significant change to the data provided about Mooresville Lake Norman homes will take place this week.  On March 27, 2008, the display of square footage for all active listings will change from an exact number provided by the listing agent to a RANGE.
The quoting of square footage has been controversial and problematic for Realtors as well as home buyers and sellers for years.  I remember when got my license in 1991, due to a lawsuit, ...

The New North Charlotte Trader Joe's is Awesome! - Jan 16 10:30 AM

It was like walking into my best friend's house after not seeing her for a several years.  A few things had changed  but when I walked through the doors I felt this warm and fuzzy feeling.  I had just rekindled an old friendship and rediscovered a part of my past.
The familar greeting by one of the crew members, the wall of fresh flowers at the entrance and the Hawaiian theme felt like putting on old slippers.  I was home.
When ...

Why barbecue in Lake Norman and North Carolina is like no other! - Feb 05 02:01 PM

The other day one of my dear friends, a native of Mooresville NC, and I decided to take time out from our crazy schedules and have lunch together.  We hadn't planned on where to go until I met her at which point she asked if I liked barbecue.  It turned out the Coddle Creek ARP Church on Coddle Creek Rd. was having their annual barbecue.  Boy, was I in for a treat!  It was some of the best ...

The Lake Norman Drought; where do we stand today, December 10, 2007? - Dec 10 05:15 PM
It was 79 degrees today but I'm not celebrating or truly even enjoying the recording breaking warm weather.   I think our cold weather had eased my concerns about our drought since we didn't have to think about watering our garden.  Talk of the drought was all but gone from the news until a small article in The Charlotte Observer "Charlotte area unlikely to see new water limits for months"  yesterday. Despite "a worsening drought and dry forecast", Duke ...

Mandatory BAN On Lawn Watering - Sep 26 08:36 AM

December is THE month for Catawba Valley Pottery Kiln Sales - Nov 29 10:16 AM
I must admit that I write this post with mixed emotions.  On the one hand I want everyone to know about my favorite hobby, collecting Catawba Valley pottery, but on the other hand, the more people that learn about these sales the less likely I will get to choose a really good piece of pottery! So, it is with great personal sacrifice that I letting you all know that in the next three weeks almost every great potter ...

It's RAINING in Durham, North Carolina...HALLELUIA!!! - Oct 24 10:27 PM
Today...I spent the WHOLE day on the road...showing foreclosed properties to investors. Getting in and out of the car, I got ABSOLUTELY SOAKED FROM HEAD TO TOE at least four times today! And...you know what...I could not have been more thrilled. In fact...IF I could have gotten away with just spending the WHOLE day playing in the rain...I would have done it. Despite my best efforts, I just could not quite think of a good way to explain to my ...

The local newspaper even reported today, year over year sales are down significantly to the ...

National homebuilder Lennar is offering a deal: a 30 year fixed rate mortgage at 4.875% if you purchase one of their homes using their preferred lender. Plus, they are paying up to 6% towards closing costs. An interest rate this low is worth a serious look, as it will boost buying power significantly. There is, of course voluminous fine print attached to the deal - read carefully and review with your real estate agent. Another ...

Are Homeowner Associations out of control? - Dec 24 11:18 PM
The concept is a good one.  With lot sizes growing increasingly smaller, the need for a uniform code is crucial to prevent a neighbor from devaluing many homes in a subdivision.  We've all seen it driving around...the one house painted a bright, obnoxious color with a few cars in the front yard and a couch on the front porch for good measure.  No one intentionally wants to live next to that guy.  However it seems ...

The Price is Right Real Estate Game?! - Jan 15 08:29 PM
The Price is Right Real Estate Game?!   Choose knowledge over the game! One of the most important factors, if not the key factor, for a quick home sale is proper pricing. Price your home too high and you'll generate very little to no interest. Price your home below what buyers are willing to pay and the final sale price might be much less than what you could have made if the home had been ...

Quit Whining, Concord, It's Going To Be Fine! - Nov 29 02:38 PM

2 guys fighting over amputated leg - Oct 04 11:38 AM
I just thought this was too interesting and HAD to share!
There is a big story brewing in the charlotte area this week about a guy that had his grill sold at an auction with his amputated leg stored inside. According to the interview from the guy that bought it (on the news), the leg was just sitting inside the grill, all shriveled up. He said it looked like something from a movie!

Please Be Smart About Your Water Usage! - Aug 06 01:51 PM
It's hot here in Charlotte NC, hotter than usual (over 100 degrees today and HUMID!).  And it's dry-we haven't had nearly enough rain lately.
So the local governments (that is, Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, and Landis in Cabarrus County) are asking folks to voluntarily get smart with their water usage.  It's not required yet-if we would all pitch in and behave, mandatory restrictions wouldn't be necessary.
And we're not talking about things that are difficult to do!  Here are some of ...

A Hard Truth To Grasp - Feb 12 07:31 PM
It's worse than the age old 'chicken or the egg' argument...since it affects how people perceive their biggest financial investment-their homes.
