Below is the latest news from the Warr Acres Web site.
| Project to Make Curbs More Visible A new project in Warr Acres aims to help older drivers by making dark street corners easier to see and navigate. The first curbs to be painted were at the corner of N.W 46th Street and N. Meridian Avenue. It all began when resident Marian Edgman called city hall with her painting idea and was given the phone number of Warr Acres Beautification Committee Chairperson Jan Blake. Ms. Blake said she talked to Street Department Supervisor Bill Robertson about the possibility of the city painting the curbs. "He said there is no money in the budget for the project, so we decided to do it ourselves," she said. |

Today, November 4th, 2008, at 11:30 a.m., we used our privilege to vote. The numbers on the ballad counters at our designated voting precinct for Warr Acres, Oklahoma, were very high for our community. The numbers were triple to what I have seen at closing time in other, more local elections.
It's a great thing to see the public get this enthused about anything. It also makes me wonder what it would be like if this enthusiasm were present at all opportunities to change our communities, cities, state, and nation by exercising our right to vote.
We may not have a lot of control as one vote, but at least we have a small push on the people, bills, and rights that affect us every day. It also can clear a path for our generations that follow. Please don't think your vote won't change anything. This great nation was started with just a few votes. They were very effective in making life what it is today. Today's votes are still very important in forming what this nation will be tomorrow.

Recycling Has Returned to Warr Acres After the City had to shut down the previous recycling program due to abuse, a group of citizens has banded together and volunteered to assist with manning a new recycling program. On the first Saturday of each month, between the hours of 9am and 4pm, and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. A group of volunteers will be staffing the recycling project to keep it at no cost to the City for employees. This will take place at Jesse Simmons Park which is located at NW 33rd and Hammond. Recycled items can be plastic (#1 and #2), aluminum and tin cans. Clear and colored glass items may also be recycled. Statistically people who recycle end up with about 17% less trash to put out for the sanitation crews. The police department will be patrolling for any illegal dumping which carries a stiff fine.
